Mom2Summit: The problem with having a secret pregnancy blog

by Tarzan on February 8, 2009 · 1 comment

mom-20-summitJane went to bed awhile ago. I’m sipping on a shot of tequila on the rocks recovering from Jane’s parents visit. It wasn’t that bad, but I wasn’t comfortable discussing our decision on selling our house with them.  Another topic for another day.

Now get this… While surfing around this evening I found a site called Mom2Summit.  I was a little shocked to see that the Mom2Summit was going to be happening on February 19-21st.  I was even more shocked to see that it’s happening in our backyard.

You see, I’ve been thinking about how much fun this blog has been for Jane and I and how it’s really brought us closer in our relationship.

Now it’s no surprise that guys aren’t the best at talking about their feelings and what’s going on in their head.  However, I find that when I write thoughts and feelings seem to just pour out faster than the tears of a pregnant woman watching an ASPCA commercial on TV.  And because of that, Jane has learned a lot about me over the last 40 days.

I have of course learned a lot about Jane as well, and see how this pregnancy blog of ours has quickly become a big part of our lives.  With that said, there is no doubt Jane and I will continue this blog once our baby is born.  And there’s no doubt that Jane will be starting at least a couple more blogs soon.  She’s owned one for a few years, but the subject matter of that one is tough and could be depressing sometimes.

So where am I going with all of this and what does all of this have to do with the Mom 2.0 Summit?  Well, I have a feeling that pregnant Jane will be slowly shifting away from other businesses she’s involved with, and she’ll be moving more into a becoming a full-time blogger.  We haven’t talked about this much at all, but knowing Jane, if there is a way she could blog full-time, she’d jump all over it I’m sure.

A BIG plus for that business is that it makes a lot of sense for a pregnant stay-at-home-wife and a stay-at-home mom, once our baby is born.

So when I saw the Mom2Summit, I instantly knew that Jane really, really should attend.  She’d learn a lot, meet a lot of great people, etc.

However, there are two problems.

The first being that the cost to attend the full 3-days of the Mom2Summit is $363.88.  That’s actually nothing compared to what I’ve paid in the past to attend business conferences in the past when things were rocking and rolling, but right now with our baby on the way, the house, and the baby costs, I’m saving my pennies.  And of course, I’d want to go with her – if I was allowed to.

If not, I have a wig and could pass for an ugly woman with a 5 o’clock shadow… I think…

The second problem is actually bigger than the first… and that is the fact that we cannot disclose our identities.  As explained on our about us page, we will not share this blog with our friends and family EVER.  We can’t.  We just disclose way too much personal info here that I do not want any of our friends or family knowing for many reasons.  I’d be completely embarrassed… among other things.

I guess there could be some ways around it if we were able to attend an event like this.  We could give people our real names and if asked what our blog is, we could tell them that it’s a secret, and we’d have to email them the address after the event is over.

I’d just hate for Jane and I to be talking to someone at the Mom2Summit and say, “We recently launched a blog called, His Boys Can Swim and…” The person’s jaw drops to the floor and says something like, “Whoa!  Your Jane with the porn star boobs and you’re the couple who’s business has flopped over the last year because of the economy, you have to sell your house, and you…”

I’d want to find a table to go crawl under – if the very, very small chance we ran into someone who reads this blog at the Mom2Summit and they found out we were “Tarzan” and “Jane”.

Believe it or, I’m a very, very private guy.  I enjoy my privacy.  And it feels funny writing about our personal lives after Jane’s plus sign sometimes.  Believe me.

So I’m not 100% sure about what to do about the Mom2Summit.  I really think Jane would get a lot out of it, meet some great contacts, and get some ideas on a blog or two she could start that would hopefully generate a good income for her by the end of this year or sooner.

Hmm… I guess another option would be not to say anything about our secret pregnancy blog, talk to others, listen to the speakers, and just lay low.  Not sure what we’ll do here… but I truly think going to the Mom2Summit would be good for Jane.  We’ve got a lot to think about and discuss in the AM!

Let us know… Will you be attending the Mom2Summit?
