Just got a call from the nurse at my OB’s office and I passed the glucose tolerance test! Woo hoo!
I was totally fretting at the idea of having to do the 3-hour test if I failed, so this is music to my ears! I’m really glad that I don’t have to worry about gestational diabetes because that’s just one more thing to have to worry about.
The nurse did say that my iron is extremely low, despite the fact that I’m taking iron supplements daily. My OB wants me to start taking iron supplements twice a day instead of once, so I will start that tomorrow. I hope it doesn’t make my stomach cramp up.
But… YAY, I passed!!

I don’t know if your OB mentioned it to you or not, but my OB recommended that I take my iron supplements with some orange juice. He mentioned a study that people that took iron with OJ were proven to absorb more iron. He didn’t get into details as to why, but I figured that it couldn’t hurt! Good luck and I love the blog!
yep, if you take iron with something acidic, you’ll absorb the iron better.
I second the orange juice thing. Also, perhaps talk with your OB about the iron supplement Floradix. It’s all-natural and doesn’t cause ANY stomach issues, including constipation. I buy the liquid form from Swansons Health through Amazon.
Also, CONGRATULATIONS on passing the test!
A heartfelt hooray. I’m 31 weeks and am not particularly fond of the “oral glucose tolerance beverage.” This is my second pregnancy and I passed round one with flying colors. I had to do the 3 hour with my first son, and believe me, it ain’t fun.
Yay I passed as well got my results today it is such a relief
congrats on passing another mile stone
I took my morning iron with orange juice. Thanks for that tip because I never knew that.
Leanna – Thanks for the tip on Floradix. I will ask.
Peta – Congrats on passing your test too!!
They had me up to three iron supplements a day in addition to what was in my prenatal when I was pregnant with my first. They were worried I was going to need a transfusion at delivery, but it all turned out fine.
I just couldn’t stand meat with her. Fruits and veggies all the way. And pizza, lol.
