Loving green grapes, but I think I should stop eating them (possibly TMI)

Why can my pregnant stomach not eat green grapes?!I have no idea what’s going on with my body when I eat green grapes.  I LOVE  green grapes, but am starting to think that they don’t really, um, agree with my since being pregnant.

I noticed this early on, but I thought it was because of morning sickness or because I ate the grapes in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep.  Apparently that was not the case.

Before today, the last time I ate green grapes was about 3 weeks ago.

Just a warning, here’s where the TMI might start…

So I ate said grapes and spent the day in the bathroom with some lovely diarrhea.  Not so fun.

Tarzan told me that maybe those grapes were bad and that I should definitely stop eating them since they weren’t agreeing with my body.  Sure enough, he was right.  As soon as I stopped eating the grapes my stomach felt better and I stopped having to run into the bathroom every 10 minutes.

Without even thinking about that experience, I bought some green and purple grapes yesterday.  I didn’t eat any green ones yesterday and my stomach was fine.  No spending time in the bathroom.

Today was a bit of a different story.

Thankfully I haven’t spent so much time in the bathroom, but I have that same damn funny feeling in my stomach and I just know that it’s from eating green grapes.

Has this happened to anyone else?  And what’s going on?  Why can’t my stomach handle this deliciousness?

I do remember reading an old wives tale early on in my pregnancy that pregnant women should not eat pineapple or grapes because it could cause a miscarriage.  I just remember thinking that was BS and I continued to eat pineapple and grapes.  As far as that bit of information, I’ve not heard anything else.

Isn’t this so weird?!

i ate pineapple and grapes when i was 7wks pregnant, and i had a miscarriage, i don't know if it's bcos of the fruits, but i give God all the glory, when i was pregnant for my first daughter i ate alot of pine apples when the pregnancy was 6months old till delivery, i don't understand why this case is different.

I've had a few green grapes twice this week at least a day apart and both times I get cramps in my stomach a few hours later and an urgent need to get to a toilet quick which leads to diarrhea coming out fast and hard like a garden hose. This never used to happen before. Why would it cause diarrhea? I LOVE green grapes.

I've actually heard about green grapes causing this reaction from other pregnant women. I can't tell you why, though. Guess you're just lucky... But I'm liking the the idea of using them later when the iron kicks in. Good idea!

I didn't mean to scare anyone by throwing around the miscarriage word. Even though I'd heard that about pineapples and grapes, I still ate plenty in the beginning without any worry.

I did a little test and ate purple grapes yesterday and totally felt fine. I don't know what it is about green grapes, but glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I will use them for help when the iron supplements are hindering anything from coming out... if you know what I mean. :)

I've never heard that about grapes, but I have heard about the pineapple thing. However, I think the thing in pineapple that "causes" miscarriages is in the core of the pineapple, so as long as you stick to the fruit, you should be fine. I mean, really, if you think about it - I'm sure lots of pregos have craved and eaten pineapple and both baby and mom have been fine. Everything in moderation!

I find that it's with any large amount of fruit. Exactly what you described use to happen to me all the time (when not pregnant) when I consumed too much fruit in one sitting. It usually was grapes or cherries. Likely because they are so good, and I would end up eating WAY too many of them.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Wow...I have been eating grapes all through this pregnancy and luckily have never had this happen! I think the green grapes are one of my fave snacks! Poor thing! Sounds like you need to steer clear!

Well at least you'll have a good remedy to use when/if you get pregnancy constipation!

I certainly hope they don't cause miscarriage because I've eaten about a pound of grapes a day all this week- all colors. They're just so damned delicious... So far so good.

Tatiana - That's so strange that the grapes made you throw up. Wow.

Punkinmama - I like green grapes better than purple ones, so I'm not sure. Each time it's happened, I've eaten green ones. I will "test" it out tomorrow and eat the purple ones to see if it's both colors of grapes. I'll let you know :)

Thanks for the info, Whitney! Who knew?!

I know this happens to some people, even kids, pregnant or not. It's something about grapes specifically, I think. A woman's body can become an alter ego when pregnant. I have a chronic illness (not awful, just annoying most of the time) and it completely disappeared while I was pregnant. I know a lot of women feel the same - something affects them that previous didn't or the other way around.

I've never heard of this! Does it happen with the purple grapes too? Strange!

One of the five times I vomited during my pregnancy was the only time I ate green grapes. Wonder what it is about them...
