33 weeks pregnant: Disturbing dream about labor and delivery

by Jane on June 10, 2009 · 6 comments

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and just had a strange pregnancy dream.Last night was one of those nights.

You know the kind I’m talking about, you know, the kind where you try really, really hard to fall asleep and you just can’t.

Or you continuously toss and turn.

Or you wake up in the middle of the night because you swear you hear someone just open the back door, even though the alarm did not make a noise.

Or you remember your friend telling you a story about that ghost she once saw that was dressed in all black and you expect to see the very same thing each time you open your eyes.

You know the kind of night I’m talking about.

That was how my night went and it was no fun.  And on top of it I had a slightly disturbing pregnancy dream that had me up before it could end in a good way.

In my dream I was in labor.  It wasn’t bad at all.  Pretty simply actually.  Then all of a sudden when I started to push the baby’s heart rate started to drop.  This worried my OB so she decided to do an emergency C-section to make sure that everything was okay with the little babe.

Someone wheeled me into another room where the C-section would take place, but then everything was delayed.  No one started to do anything.  I was just laying on the table waiting for something to happen, or someone to tell me that they were going to start soon… but nothing.

I was so worried about my baby’s heart rate and no one could tell me what was going on.  My OB kept making up excuses as to why she hadn’t started the procedure.  The worst part was that I felt completely helpless and couldn’t understand why people weren’t helping me.

There was a girl in the bed next to me who came in after I did, but was finished almost immediately with her C-section.  I was really irritated in my dream and when I woke up I just felt like I’d have an off day today.  Yuck.

Let’s just all keep our fingers (and toes) crossed that my labor and delivery all goes smoothly and that I never feel neglected by anyone that should be helping me out.

Aw, I'm sorry! Nightmares while pregnant are terrible. I remember I was about 13-14 weeks pregnant and I had a dream I "miscarried" my son while using the bathroom. And it was so vivid, I woke up crying. After that dream, I was paranoid for awhile...I'm sure your labor will go great!

I haven't had any of those kinds of dreams with this pregnancy, but with my first child, i had dreams that I went into labor & the doctors were amazed on how quickly & easily I delivered. needless to say, that is not what happened!

Fingers crossed!

What an dream. Sounds like one of the ones I am so glad to wake-up from...! Don't you just love how we process our "stuff" during what should be the most peaceful time of day/night. A detailed day-dream about exactly how you want your labor & delivery to go may help keep that nightmare from reoccuring!??! Sincerest Best Wishes on delivering your son. Kristi Bell

Oh i've had a couple of those too. really strange and bizarre dreams about the baby and it freaked.me.out

but i read somewhere that while pregnant, these dreams are far too common so i wasn't too worried. crazy, crazy minds we develop while we're pregnant huh!?

That sounds awful! I've had some anxiety ridden dreams too. I've heard disturbing dreams are common in pregnancy. It's probably natural when we have to put all of our faith in the healthcare providers to help us out, that idea causes worry. I'm sure you'll have an easy time in real life. If anything like that did happen you could send your husband to shake down the staff and get some results, that's what they are there for right? to help us get what we need.
