38 weeks pregnant: Going to the movies is not a great idea

by Jane on July 12, 2009 · 10 comments

I had to go to the bathroom five times before the movie even started today at 38 weeks pregnant. Not a good idea.Today one of my girl friends and I went out to lunch and then saw the movie, The Proposal (soo good, by the way).  The last time I was at the movies was about 2-3 weeks ago.  I paced myself with how much water I drank just so I didn’t have to go to the bathroom a lot.

My movie experience was a lot different today being 38 weeks pregnant.  I drank so much water during lunch and hardly thought about the fact that we were going to go to the movies after.  I really should have thought more about it though.

I thought I had everything under control by stopping at the bathroom two times before the movie started, but boy was I wrong!

Do you have any idea how irritating it is to return from the bathroom only to realize that you have to go again? Of course our seats were in the middle, so that meant that I had to walk through people’s legs to try to make it to the restroom without having an accident.

In addition to the two times of going to the bathroom before the movie started, I also had to go twice during the previews of the movie.  Ugh.  I kept on apologizing to the people that had to move, but I could tell that some were starting to get annoyed.  Really, I can’t imagine getting pissy with a pregnant lady, but whatever.

One of the times I had to get up I decided to walk out to the left of my seat so that I could give the people on the right side a break of having to move.  Well, wouldn’t you know that the exit was only on the right side of the theatre, not the left where I was.  Oh and there was not a path going across from left to right in the theatre, meaning that I had to walk up to the screen and then over to the right side.

Talk about drawing more attention to myself than I wanted!

In total, I went to the bathroom 5 times in a very short period of time.  Then I had to go again, like really bad, like it didn’t feel like I had previously gone to the bathroom, but I did my best holding it.  Probably not the smartest thing I could have done, but I just didn’t want to deal with mean looks from people who wanted to be asses.

The movie couldn’t have ended any sooner.  I waddled my way to the restroom and then let out a huge sigh of relief.  No joke, it was just about orgasmic.  I have never before been so excited to see a public bathroom in my entire life .

After having this experience, I’m pretty sure that I will not be partaking in the movie theatre anymore while pregnant.  I thought I could handle it at 38 weeks pregnant, but I couldn’t.  I honestly don’t know how I made it through the Phantom of the Opera the other night either…  perhaps it was the intermission that saved me.

Oh boy. I'm only 31 weeks and the peeing is ridiculous...

I felt that way too when i went to a hockey game. i was hoping that our seats would be towards the end but of course, smack dab in the middle (and i was only 24 weeks pregnant then!!). i can't imagine going now. i literally would watch the clock and count down when i could go to the bathroom. i only drank water too since drinking soda makes me go even more!

When I drove down from PA to GA last month, I had to be strategic with what I drank & how much. Again, knowing that soda makes me go, I had to drink water or only a small drink then know that I had to have my husband stop in an hour. I honestly did not know how I would make it down without having to stop every hour but I pulled it off!

I feel you. I went to the movies a few days ago at 39.5 weeks pregnant (due date tomorrow, WHY WON'T THIS BABY COME OUT ALREADY?!) and I paced myself from about 10am on just so that I'd only have to pee three times during teh movie that started at 1pm. It was ludicrous.

I actually watched a movie at the theater while in early labor and it worked out great. I had a distraction and air conditioning (it was late July). So don't count that out!

Thanks for following me on twitter! I love your blog. I will be reading a few more of your posts after this comment.

You are not alone. But who gives a hoot? Go to the movies as much as you want! When the baby gets here you'll be greatful you did because you won't see the inside of a movie theater for a least a few months (if you're lucky).

I went to see Sex and the City when I was in my 7th month. I had a seat in the middle too and also had to pee during the previews. I managed to switch my seat with people next to the aisle because I told them I was going to be getting up A LOT!

every time i have been to the movies to see that movie it's been sold out but i want to see it! so far i'm not peeing THAT much, but i guess this is what i have to look forward to!

I am still amazed that I can pee...then go back to putting on my makeup...only to have to walk back over to the toilet and pee again 2 minutes later. I keep thinking, there will be nothing there...but there ALWAYS is! What is up with that? Oh yeah...the extra human being sitting on top of our poor little bladders. That's right!

LOL This post brought back memories. I had to be induced at 41wks with both of my children. Nobody really plans to be overdue, so what do you do with all that extra time? My hubby was already off work, so we saw movies. Lots of movies! I think I even went to the movies the night before I was induced! And yes, I did have to go to the bathroom more than once or twice...

Hee hee... you said "getting 'pissy' with a pregnant lady!"
Glad you made it each time! I know the feeling!

You need the RunNPee ap for you iphone. Yes it is just what you think you tell it what movie you are watching and it tells you the most opportune time to run and pee!
