I finally got the call from the nurse at the OB’s office about the results from all my blood work done at the first pregnancy appointment. It seems like it took forever for those results to come in!
She said that most of my blood work looked just fine. She said that my iron was low and my thyroid was elevated. She recommended that I take an iron supplement every day and she called in a thyroid prescription to my pharmacy.
How did I go from taking nothing (well birth control pills when I remembered) to now taking three different pills (sometimes four if the DHA is not in the prenatal vitamin) a day?
I have to take the thyroid medication 30 minutes to 1 hour before breakfast with a full glass of water. I thought this would be hard, because let’s face it, I’m pregnant and always look forward to eating breakfast. But it’s a lot easier than I thought due to the fact that I wake up to pee so often at night.
I usually wake up around 630am to go to the bathroom, so I leave the thyroid pills on my nightstand with some water and take a pill after I pee. Then I fall asleep for a little bit longer and when I wake up, it’s time to eat breakfast!
At lunch I’ve been taking my iron supplement. I have to admit, I was a little worried about the constipation that comes along with taking iron. So far, so good though. Everything comes out daily just like it should.
I take my prenatal vitamins at night with my dinner to get in my pill quota for the day. Then I go to bed, wake up a million times during the night to pee, and repeat the whole process the next day. Fun times.
