Two Month Old Schedule: Three days in the life of little Monkey

two month old scheduleLately Monkey has been following more a routine than before & it’s been really nice and easy.  Even though he is only two months old, I thought it might be helpful for some of you out there.  I have looked online to see what the newborn schedule for a two month old is and Monkey seems to be doing what other two month olds do.

I know all babies are different, but here goes:

Monkey’s Two Month Old Schedule:

Friday, September 18, 2009

6:00am: Feed & put back into crib

9:00am: Feed & get dressed for the day.  Tummy time on the playmat & on my chest. Read books, sing, go for walks, run errands

Noon: Feed & Nap

3:30pm: Feed & play some more.

5:30pm: Feed

6:00pm: Bath

7:00pm: Feed & read a book

7:45pm: Put in crib “drowsy but awake”

Saturday, September 19, 2009:

2:00am: Feed & back to crib

7:30am: Feed & slept on me on the couch

9:45am: Feed & play

10:45am: Feed & nap in the swing

3:20pm: Feed & play

5:30pm: Feed

6:00pm: Bath

6:30pm: Feed

7:00pm: Put in crib completely asleep

Sunday, September 20, 2009

1:30am: Feed & back to crib

7:00am: Feed & back to crib & watched mobile

9:30am: Feed & play

11:15am: Nap

3:30pm: Feed & play

5:30pm: Feed

6:00pm: Bath

6:30pm: Feed

7:00pm: Put in crib drowsy but awake

I change his diaper every time he wakes up from a nap and when I notice that it needs to be changed.  We probably go through 8-10 diapers a day (totally guessing).

We also do neck exercises to improve torticollis at every diaper change and periodically throughout the day when he is playing.

What’s a typical day for you and your baby?

Three Month

7a-Wake up and feed
830-Naps for 30 minutes
10a-Eats, awake until next feeding
1p-Eats
4p-Eats
430p-pick up from daycare
430-7, playtime with Mommy and Daddy-takes a 20 minute nap typically from 6-620.
7p-bath time
730-eats
8p-little rocking in her vibrating chair
9p-put in her crib for the night

She’s not a big sleeper during the day anymore. She’ll sleep more if we are out running errands, but if we are home, it’s 20-45 naps here and there. This is new for us, about 2 weeks or so. She used to sleep much longer.

I have a 3 week old – the idea that he might start to form a bit of a schedule soon (that perhaps involves sleeping during the night time) is pretty exciting! Thanks for passing this along.

My DD is 8 mo. old and follows this rough schedule:
6:00 AM wakes, eats an 8 oz. bottle then back to crib
8:00-8:30 Am wakes, dress her for day, then breakfast of 5 Tb. of cereal mixed with formula and banana
9:00-10:30 Playtime, then a 4 oz. bottle right before her morning nap
10:30-Noon naptime
12:30 lunch of 1 1/2 Stage 2 jars
1-2 PM playtime, then another 4 oz. bottle before afternoon nap
2-4 afternoon nap
4:30 dinner, 1 Stage 2 jar
5-6:30 more playtime, then one last bottle, 8 oz.
7 bath, pjs., a goodnight kiss and in bed no later than 7:30

The nap times are very approx. and I put her in her crib awake so she doesn’t actually sleep the whole time she’s in there, especially now that she’s crawling and pulling up… Total, I’d say she actually naps for about 3-3 1/2 hrs. a day and sleeps for about 10 hrs. straight at night.

that’s awesome. I wish I could get my son to follow a scheduale. Might make potty training a lot easier for the both of us.

We’re just now getting into a more regular eat-play-nap routine. He basically wakes about 1-3 am, goes back down, then wakes again around 6-8 am, when he’s up for the day. He takes a morning nap, then another nap around noon-3pm. Then he’s basically up till bedtime, around 7-9 pm. Bath or sponge bath before bed.

He’s almost 7 wks.

My little Natalie is now 7 weeks old. She wakes at 6-7am and feeds every 3 hours. She barely naps during the day. Usually after boob and bottle, she is content and I can read to her, play or exercise with her. Then I place her in the crib. She usually cries for a few minutes and then sometimes takes a 30min. nap. I too change her diaper and try to burp her everytime she wakes up early (before her next scheduled feeding). I take her for a walk in the afternoon after feeding her and her bath time is usually in the evening before her last feeding of the night. She is in her crib and sleeping by 8:30pm and she will sleep through until 2-3am. Then, she’s up every 3 hours and the day starts all over again.
Jane, I was wondering how much formula you are feeding Monkey? Natalie is 7 weeks and I just started to give her 120ml. 9oml is no longer enough for her and I find that after 120ml, she doesn’t cry for more…Just wondering if this amount sounds about right?

8 Jane 09.21.09 at 7:55 pm

Hi Judy – We’ve been giving him 4.5 – 5 oz of formula at each feeding. Nine out of ten times this amount is enough for him. Usually once a day we have to make another ounce or two for one of his feedings…. He’ll be 9 weeks on Thursday. Hope that helps!

Oh how I wish this blog was around when I was a first time mom! All the good feedback you get, multiply it by ten and that’s probably close to the number of people you help.

I remember trying to figure out what a “normal” routine was with DD, but couldn’t find anything to help me – you’re helping many sleep deprived parents!

Jane I’ve been sick for a week and I haven’t been on…… it’s good to see that your doing so much better and seem so much happier!!!! Congrats! I just started to feel my baby move… I’m at 12 weeks now, wish me luck!!!!

Thanks for posting this! As someone trying to get pregnant, I’m not quite to the point of thinking about schedules yet. But the one you’ve got going sounds pretty good! It’s amazing how much they change in just a few short months. I’m sure when you first began this whole journey you thought you’d never sleep again!

13 Judy from Toronto, Ontario 09.22.09 at 12:40 pm

Hi Jane,

Thanks for responding. It is super helpful to know that Monkey is eating well and since Natalie is a week behind him, it’s ok for her to be eating more now. I guess it’s time to put away the 4 oz. bottles and start using the 5 oz. bottles :)

The only schedule type thing I’ve ever written out was a nursing one at 5 months (http://boringestmusings.blogspot.com/). Once they develop a schedule, most babies seem to have their first nap about 2 hours after they wake up, 2nd about 3 hours after that wake up & then more sleep 3-4 hours after the second nap.

These tips are so helpful!

But O.M.G. My almost 3 week old is already downing 120ml of breastmilk or formula (we’re doing both). He isn’t satisfied with anything less. Geeez…i’m gonna have a big guy on my hands LOL!
