hi Jane!

i know you wrote this post forever ago, but i'd love to ask you a question as my LO is just over 2 months now. i'm pretty jealous that you had a predictable schedule even back then! we're working on it, and she started sleeping through the night early on, but the naps are totally all over the place. how did you get monkey to start falling asleep drowsy but awake? this seems like the "key" to good sleep habits, but seems like pie in the sky to me. was monkey just an easy sleeper? did you have a strategy? please think back to his newborn days and pass on your wisdom :)

These tips are so helpful!

But O.M.G. My almost 3 week old is already downing 120ml of breastmilk or formula (we're doing both). He isn't satisfied with anything less. Geeez...i'm gonna have a big guy on my hands LOL!

The only schedule type thing I've ever written out was a nursing one at 5 months (http://boringestmusings.blogspot.com/). Once they develop a schedule, most babies seem to have their first nap about 2 hours after they wake up, 2nd about 3 hours after that wake up & then more sleep 3-4 hours after the second nap.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for responding. It is super helpful to know that Monkey is eating well and since Natalie is a week behind him, it's ok for her to be eating more now. I guess it's time to put away the 4 oz. bottles and start using the 5 oz. bottles :)

Thanks for posting this! As someone trying to get pregnant, I'm not quite to the point of thinking about schedules yet. But the one you've got going sounds pretty good! It's amazing how much they change in just a few short months. I'm sure when you first began this whole journey you thought you'd never sleep again!

Hi Jane

My Little Girl is 6 weeks today and we are starting to get a schedule going its a bit like this but nothing is set in concreate

5 am - wake up feed... Cuddles in bed with Mummy and Daddy

5:30 am - back to bassinette

7:30 - 8:30 am - feed, get dressed, cuddles with daddy before he goes to work - while i get daddy clothes ready. then swing time and sleep

12 pm - Wake up feed, play and Tummy time, maybe a sleep

3 pm- feed

4 pm - bath, play time

6:30 - Feed and sleep

10:30 -12am - feed and straight back to sleep bassinette

3:30 -5.30 feed and back to sleep in bassinette

A couple of night she has slept from midnight till 5 or 6 in the morning but these are few and far between and every night this has happened i have been awake all night sick with the gallstone pain i have been suffering from since i got pregnant.

Also Jane has your skin cleared up... I was hoping my skin would go back to normal after giving birth but 6 weeks on i am still havng issues

And one more thing me and my little girl are travelling on a plane on friday to visit my family if anyone has any tips for me travelling with a 6 week old I would for anyone to email me pvisinko@hotmail.com

Oh how I wish this blog was around when I was a first time mom! All the good feedback you get, multiply it by ten and that's probably close to the number of people you help.

I remember trying to figure out what a "normal" routine was with DD, but couldn't find anything to help me - you're helping many sleep deprived parents!

Hi Judy - We've been giving him 4.5 - 5 oz of formula at each feeding. Nine out of ten times this amount is enough for him. Usually once a day we have to make another ounce or two for one of his feedings.... He'll be 9 weeks on Thursday. Hope that helps!

My little Natalie is now 7 weeks old. She wakes at 6-7am and feeds every 3 hours. She barely naps during the day. Usually after boob and bottle, she is content and I can read to her, play or exercise with her. Then I place her in the crib. She usually cries for a few minutes and then sometimes takes a 30min. nap. I too change her diaper and try to burp her everytime she wakes up early (before her next scheduled feeding). I take her for a walk in the afternoon after feeding her and her bath time is usually in the evening before her last feeding of the night. She is in her crib and sleeping by 8:30pm and she will sleep through until 2-3am. Then, she's up every 3 hours and the day starts all over again.
Jane, I was wondering how much formula you are feeding Monkey? Natalie is 7 weeks and I just started to give her 120ml. 9oml is no longer enough for her and I find that after 120ml, she doesn't cry for more...Just wondering if this amount sounds about right?
