Twilight book: Consider me a fan now (never thought I’d say that)

twilightbookI’ve heard about the Twilight book for at least a year now & I’ve never understood the appeal.  I mean, vampires, really?  And a book that is geared for tweens & teens?  No thank you.

I’ve never had a desire to pick up the Twilight book, even though I absolutely love to read.  I’ve also not had a desire to see the Twilight movie that people raved about.

It’s been a few weeks now that my 15-year old cousin tried to persuade me to read the books.  Shoot, even her mom was telling me how simply awesome the Twilight series is & how I’m missing out.  At their house, her mom was searching frantically for the book so that I could borrow it.  She just knew that if I read a little, I would be hooked.  I was not so sure.

Since weeks have passed since I was sent home with Twilight & New Moon, I thought it would be time to actually pick up the book or return them.  I told myself that I would read for 10-15 minutes and see what I thought.

So, after much resistance, I went into my bedroom last night around 10pm to start reading.  I figured that the book was be closed really fast because I just didn’t see myself getting into a tween vampire series.

Well what I thought would only take a few minutes in order for me to decide that I wasn’t into the book turned into almost two hours… Oh and I liked it and only put it down because I knew how tired I would be today if I stayed up too much later.

So now it’s 3am and I’m up & tempted to start reading more of this book.  I know that I will suffer tomorrow if I do start reading, but if it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.

Thick Twilight book, here I come!

Actually, the 5th one, midnight sun, wont be coming out. Some jerk leaked the draft of it online and hundreds of people read it, so stephanie meyer doesnt want to finish it now because she feels like its ruined. you can however download the draft from her website, i think its stephaniemeyer.com

I am OBSESSED with these books and have read all of them 2 times...I am just about to order my tickets for new moon soon also! You are going to LOVE them!!! Enjoy!!!

That is what happened to me. I got the book for an over the summer read and ended up reading all 4 in ONE week. I stayed up until all hours of the night and all day long. I love reading though.

My sister-in law is into this series. I haven't started it, but reading is a great way to relax as a new mom...glad you are doing well!

I felt the EXACT same way that you did about this series. Before my ankle surgery in December I decided to buy twilight and give it a shot. I could NOT put the darn book down! And I even hobbled in NYC on crutches to buy the last 3, which i finished in two weeks! The movie was TERRIBLE in comparison to the book, and the books only get BETTER as you get through them. New Moon is a tough one to get through (you'll see why) but well worth it once you do!

ENJOY!

Jane, it's so nice to see you enjoying motherhood and look, you even have some time to read! With Natalie almost at 10 weeks, I am finding more time in the day for myself to relax and read too...No novels for me though...Just short magazine articles!

I too thought that I was a bit too old for this, but it's good. I guess I can't deny that... ha ha ha

I have read all 3 books and love them. It is strange coming from an adult with children but the author makes the books so that women with husbands and experience can "read" into some of the foreplay themes of the book where tweens don't get that and what they get is abstinence. Keep reading...You will be rewarded :)

It's definitely easy to get hooked on them! I feel like a big dork carry them around. I mean, I'm an adult, why am I reading these tween books?

I finally gave in and started to just enjoy them. hee hee

Haha...I was the same way. I became addicted instantly and actually read the entire series in about three weeks. Of course it helps that I'm pregnant and don't really get out much anymore- so I had plenty of time on my hands to read until 2 or 3 am....exhausting myself for work the next day. But it's soooo worth it! It's such a good series. I just wish I could find another that seems worth it now. You'll love them all!

i thought i was alone! everyone else is saying the 2nd one is the hardest to get through. i definitely thought the 3rd one was going to drag on forever. but i'm sure breaking dawn will more than make up for it! as far as the book from edward's point of view, anyone heard when that's coming out?

HAHA...I just started reading them yesterday too...I just finished book 3 (yes already)...and I second the opinion that the 3rd book is a little....not as good as the others. Hopefully the 4th will make up for it!

OMG, I felt the exact same way. Last year my book club chose it and I was like hello ladies, we are adults who drink lots of wine while discussing grown up books. Anyway, I got totally, embarrassingly hooked.

I put the book on hold at the library at the beginning of last year because I'd been on the prowl for something new to read on the Amazon Best Seller list. I got it several weeks later (there was a long waiting list,) and it was almost due back before I finally picked it up. I read the whole thing in one sitting. I immediately called my best friend (who devours books by the hour) and said, "YOU HAVE TO READ THIS. It's about this high school girl and a vampire and they fall in love....but no, it's better than that, I swear."

Happy reading the other three ;-).

Hey Suzanne.... didn't you hear about Midnight Sun? Stephenie is writing Twilight from Edward's perspective

Haha! I wrote a blog scarily similar to this about a year ago. You hate the fact you love it! And you'll be so sad when the books are done. It's a trip.

Same thing happened to me! I never thought I'd get into those books, but a persistent friend finally sold me on it ... and gave me all four books at once. I tore through them as fast as I could. The hubs was VERY happy that there wasn't a fifth book. He got tired of sleeping with the light on!

Have fun!! You will LOVE this series!

Welcome to the dark side! lol.
I'm 33 and loved them too. didn't think i would. could never get through the harry potter books but am now a HUGE twilight fan. if you haven't seen the movie, don't be too disappointed. of course the book is way better. and yes, the last one in the series is by far the best. the middle two are just there to set the scene for the last book, i swear! :)

The 4th book is by far the best!!! I wasn't so sure about the books either, but I got them for my birthday this year and starting reading them this summer and I could not put them down. I read all 4 books in less than a week. I'm about to start reading them again!! I even got my husband to read them, my oldest son and my daughter are reading them right now! They all LOVE the books as well!! The movie is good, but could've been better. I hear that New Moon (movie) is going to be better than Twilight (movie). Which makes sense, since they have a new director to do New Moon. Welcome to the obsession!

Last year, my (female) coworkers and I all read the books. We discussed them at lunch and looked up Stephenie Meyer website for updates. We even ditched work to go see the first movie (disappointing!!). I'm re-reading the series now :-) I recommend checking out The Host, also by Stephenie but not related to the Twilight series. The beginning starts out slow but give it a chance, it's a fun book!

I read all four of them and they are AMAZING. I fought against it until about 3 months ago when I read all four books in 5 days.....

Happy reading!!!! Wait until you read Breaking Dawn, you will get so mad at it, lol

LOL - I was sucked into the series when I had my little guy two years ago. Everyone online was talking about Twilight and I thought I would hate it, but I was wrong. I loved the books because they helped me to escape and the characters were fun. As others have mentioned New Moon was my least favorite, but I kept with it and book 3 and 4 were wonderful again. Happy reading!

haha, none of us want to admit it once we do read those books, how much we liked them. i've read the first 3, and am going to buy the 4th one here shortly. the 3rd was the hardest for me to get through, but as the lady before me stated, i've heard the 4th is the best :) i'm glad you got to read the book, before you saw the movie though. in my opinion, that movie did it no justice. i'm happy you found a new book series you liked - reading does wonders to calm you down after a busy day!

I read all four of them last year and of the four the last one is my favorite by a long shot. The second one is my least favorite. So keep going if for nothing else that you can say you did it, lol. I felt the same way when I started the Twilight series and the Harry Potter series. I just couldn't get the hype over either. Now I have read both and like HP much better but Twilight wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
