I had big plans for Christmas Eve. We were going to go out to lunch, watch Christmas movies, & just relax. I was excited and the day sounded lovely.
Then my loving husband says, “Do you mind if we go to Gallery Furniture & get a new mattress & look for new living room furniture?”
Initially I said no. I mean, who in their right mind wants to spend Christmas Eve shopping for a new mattress?! Then I said that we could fit it in before lunch, as long as it didn’t take us a long time. My husband agreed.
Monkey, Tarzan, & I drove to the furniture store and started testing out Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Sure enough, we picked out the mattress we wanted within 20 minutes. This was not looking so bad after all, plus we were going to be sleeping on a new mattress that night. Woo hoo!
Then we started to look at living room furniture. Not so exciting at all.
The furniture store we went to is really big. One of the biggest ones in the US, I think. Oh & did I mention that there are live animals there too? Yep, it’s true.
Naturally we got distracted by the toucans, parrots, & many others birds in various parts of the store. Monkey didn’t seem to care one way or another about the birds.
Then we saw the monkeys. Yeah, I said it… monkeys… in the middle of a furniture store.
Our monkey took one look at the other monkey and started cracking up. Like really cracking up. Of course T & I started laughing too. Our monkey loved the other monkey & watched him climb up the wall, play with his toys (many of which our son has), & swing on some fake vines. It was the most adorable thing ever!
But I don’t think the other monkey liked our monkey too much. Perhaps because our monkey is little like the monkey we were watching, I’m not sure. The monkey would come up to us, look around, & once his eyes focused on our monkey he would jump off to the other side. We would follow & the monkey would then go to a new place.
Our monkey was just laughing & laughing. & hearing your baby really laugh so easily at something is one of the best things you can listen to. It made me wish we had a pet monkey for a little bit until I came to my senses, about a minute later.
So Christmas Eve turned out to be a good & memorable day. I can’t wait to take Monkey to the zoo for him to see all sorts of animals.
& I got my lunch out too. We went to the Cheesecake Factory & watched a movie before the new mattress was delivered. However, I think I’m the only one in the world that didn’t take a quick liking to the Tempur-Pedic mattress. It was basically frozen when the delivery men brought it to our house & it was hard as a rock. & when’s the last time you wanted to sleep on a rock?!
& the smell. Oh, the smell. It was nauseating. So much so that we had to open up the windows in our room & it was probably 32 degrees that night.
Last night was night 4 of having the mattress. It also marks the first night that I slept on the mattress the whole night. Yes, the other three nights I woke up in the middle of the night & slept on the couch.
I’ll just say it again – I think I’m the only one in the world that didn’t take a fast liking to the Tempur-Pedic mattress.

I just love baby-laughter. I remember when NHL was young, we heard that a Krispy Kreme was going to open in our neighborhood. I said “Yay, Sugar!” and NHL laughed his little baby head off. I kept repeating “Sugar” and he kept laughing. Luckily, we got it all on video.
To this day, I enjoy tickling my boys to hear their out-of-control laughter. I even made my youngest’s tickle-laughter my “you have TXT messages” sound for awhile. It got annoying fast, though. Five TXT messages would come in rapid-fire and my phone would start laughing out of control. (Plus, I started to think what would happen if I got a TXT message during a serious meeting.)
Make sure you take a video of Monkey laughing. You’ll want to go back and watch the video over and over and over again!
Oh that is ADORABLE!!! Would love to hear a good baby belly laugh. Been too long since I heard one. Can I borrow Monkey for a bit? Ya know, just til he poops. hehe
I’m not a huge fan of the tempur-pedic either. I can’t wait to hear my baby laugh! I’m 34 weeks pregnant…… On bedrest! I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE reading your blog and it really helps pass the time when my hubby is at work. I have went back and read them all! I hope yall had a great Christmas with your little monkeey! What did Tarzan get you for Christmas? What did you get him?
My in-laws have one and the husband and I had to house-sit for them for about 6 days. It took me about 4 nights to get used to it and then it was pretty much time to go back home to our comfy bed. So…you’re not the only one!
I have it on good authority that the sound of your baby laughing is more addictive than heroin.
I hated that bed….. I did the 30 trial and my back has never hurt more in my life. I went and bought a Pillow Top and I’ve had it for a year, never slept better!
My aunt got one of those mattresses and apparently you have to jump on it a bit to loosen it up. But beware: she spent a good hour jumping on the center-ish parts of the bed before she decided that the edges needed softening, too, and moved on to jump on them – and promptly fell off and broke her wrist. So beware: breaking in the new mattress may involve some actual bone-breaking, as well, if you’re not careful!
Happy New Year!!!!!
