12 weeks pregnant: It’s a plum!

I’m 12 weeks pregnant today and my baby is the size of a plum!  How exciting!  

As each week goes by, I find myself really looking forward to getting these emails that tell me what’s going on with the baby and with myself as well.  I’m also really excited to be entering the second trimester soon (just 1 week and 3 days)!

Here’s what is going on with the plum this week:

- The hair that will provide the warmth for the baby’s body is starting to form all around the body.
- The baby is starting to urinate and is able to absorb sugar now.
- The baby has started tomove, but I can’t feel it yet.
- The baby’s head is starting to straighten out the neck.
- The sucking reflexes are starting to develop.
- The fingernails and toenails are starting to develop.

It’s really hard to believe that so much is going on inside of my body.  The whole miracle of life is pretty amazing!  To think that most of the basic body structures are developed is pretty cool too.  

Being pregnant has really started to settled in my  head now.  I feel pregnant and I’m really looking forward to experiencing all of the joys of pregnancy.  It’s taken me a bit longer than others to get to this place (gotta love surprises), but I’m glad that I’m finally here.  I feel really blessed to be pregnant and I hope that my pregnancy continues to be healthy.
