Today Monkey & I went out to lunch with my brother. My brother is a really good uncle & has really surprised me with how much he wants to spend time with Monkey.
While we were waiting on our food to come my brother said, “No offense, but I had no idea that I would love being an uncle & having a nephew as much as I do. I just thought he would be a baby & I wouldn’t know what to do, but I have a blast with him. I was scared when you were pregnant about being around a baby, but I love it.”
My heart melted. What sweet, sweet words to come out of my brother’s mouth.
We had an exciting afternoon because after lunch we stopped by the grocery store (please detect my hint of sarcasm here). At the grocery store my brother was proudly holding Monkey. A lady came up to us & told us that he was such a cute little boy & we both said “thank you” in unison.
It’s so cute to see my little brother excited to have a nephew & to take such pride in him!

That is so sweet and honest. My brother and I have children that are a month apart and I love it. I just wish we lived closer.
My brother has 4 children of his own, but I’m the youngest out of my siblings (24) and the last to have children. I just had my first 4 months ago and I wish like crazy that my brother lived closer so all of the children could know each other, adn so that they could know their Uncle better. My siblings’ children and mine range from 19years-4months, so it’s really pretty cool to see my older nieces and nephews enjoying the new babies too
I love love love that picture!!! How sweet!
I adore the picture you used!
My brother in law is also proud to be an uncle! I was surprised because he never seemed to be much a baby person but he loves to show off pics of him holding my little girl
Amazing how a baby can bring out new emotions.
I feel a little like Alicia. I’m the youngest of 4 children and the only girl. My oldest brother is 10 years older than me and my youngest brother is 8 years older than me. I’m the last to have kids and surprisingly, my brothers have really been hands-on with my 3 month old daughter. They all have kids of their own (ranging from 13-5 years old), but I guess they miss having a baby to cuddle. We all live within 30 minutes from each other and they were extremely sad to hear that we’ll be living in Texas for almost a year (hubby’s in the Army). They really want to be part of my daughter’s life and especially share in the milestones of her first year.
That is so awesome, Jane. My sister is kind of like your brother. I wasn’t sure how she would react to my being pregnant and then having a baby. My little munchkin is almost 13 months old (sob! where has the time gone!?), and she ADORES him. She tells me repeatedly she doesn’t want children of her own (or even to get married) but she would do anything in the world for her nephew. It’s so sweet to watch. I wish she lived closer so she could see him more often, but such is life.
My younger brother got his girlfriend pregnant a couple years ago. At first I thought I’d see the baby once in a while and not really care. After my niece was born though, I held her for the first time and fell in love. It’s amazing how that happens!
(Edit: fixed my name!)
That’s adorable! My 3 brothers love being uncles too- actually, 2 of them started requesting a niece/nephew pretty much as soon as we were back from our honeymoon! Unfortunately they both moved out of state this year – we miss them, and also their babysitting!
