Do 12 month olds ever slow down so moms can get anything done?! I don’t think so.

chasing a toddlerHoly hell, it’s hard to find time to blog with a 12 month old!  Gone are the days when I would spend the day writing many blog posts & post daily… Now I’m lucky to check Facebook & my blog a few times a week.  I’m definitely appreciating the time when Monkey was younger & I thought it was hard.

Ha!  That was the easy part!  All he did was sleep, eat, & go to the bathroom.

Now, I’m consistently chasing him around.  He’s not walking yet, but is thisclose to grasping the idea of it… At least that’s what I think.  He’s a super fast crawler though & keeps me busy chasing after him.  He’s into everything & our house shows that.  We have built-in bookshelves with nothing of ours on the bottom two shelves.

Hint: If you have bookshelves too, you can do what we did to the shelves that your baby can reach…  We put some of his toys in there, like dump trucks, stackers, sorters, & books.  He loves going over to the shelves & grabbing his own toys.

Besides Monkey being a typical little boy & into absolutely everything, we’ve been busy with new changes going on.  Nope, I’m not pregnant.

My in-laws were here & it was awesome having them in town.  Can you believe I just said that?! They were such a big help & it was nice being able to do the laundry & dishes without having a little one distract me.

Speaking of distractions, yesterday I was folding laundry in my bedroom.  Usually I just shut the door so Monkey can’t escape.  I had only been folding clothes for maybe two minutes & I didn’t hear Monkey.

You know that when you don’t hear anything from your child, usually that means they are getting into some kind of trouble, right?  Sure enough I see Monkey’s two feet & that was it.  He is obsessed with our dog, who resides under our bed for a lot of the day because Monkey chases him.  Monkey had pushed himself under our bed to be closer to our dog.  I quickly pulled Monkey out, & was so happy that I caught him when I did.

I couldn’t even imagine if he put himself completely under the bed.  Thankfully I will keep a closer eye on my little escape artist.

So back to the new changes…

It looks like we will be moving.  To another state.  For my husband’s business.  For only one year.  Holy crap.

Our house is on the market right now & that’s quite a challenge.  You know, to try my hardest to keep the house clean for a showing while having a 12 month old run around.  It’s crazy!  It seems like just when I get the house picked up it becomes a mess again.  ’Tis life with a baby, I suppose.

So as you can see I don’t have a lot of free time.  At night Monkey goes to bed around 7:30pm.  We eat dinner, I pick up a bit, & then I want some time for myself, whether it’s reading, having a glass of wine, taking a bath, etc.

Speaking of baths, Monkey has been pooping while taking his bath.  Anyone know of any tricks to help with this?!

I know this post is random, but that’s all I got ;)  Monkey is finishing his breakfast now, & my motherly duties are calling…

I will try to post more regularly.  Believe me, I do miss it & hearing from you all!  Thanks to the loyal readers out there!

hahahahahaha I WISH they slowed down! my daughter will be 2 in 4 months and she is only getting faster! lol

You should encourage Tarzan to do a quick post!

I feel your pain, Jane, my ten-month-old keeps me very busy, and my husband's job just relocated us to another province. I can relate to everything you are going through (minus the tub pooping LOL).

I feel you- keep it up.

So no advice on the tub pooping but my husband is the middle of 3 boys and when their mom would put the tree of them in the tub the youngest brother would poop so that his big brothers would go running and he could have the tub to himself. Their mom would find him in the tub alone playing with toys while the pooh just floated around!

Lol, they are so cute and funny though! WEre trying to get pregnant for the second time and found this websie great!

Good to hear from you again! Boy, do I miss that glass of wine at night. I'm incubating a little one, due in April 2011.

LOL! I did the same thing with all the shelves in our house. The bottom two of every shelf currently belongs to the baby, and I'm sure I will soon have to make it the bottom three.
My older son went through a pooping in the tub stage. His doctor said that it was simply the relaxation of the warm water.
Since he didn't do this until he was about one, I kinda doubt he was entirely correct. I think it was partially to do with relaxation, but I think he liked the reaction it got out of me. There were a few times when he didn't want to take a bath, and he would poop first thing because he knew I would get him out. They learn fast!
Good luck with the move. We had to move due to black mold when my son was 8 weeks old. I was still recovering from a c-section and he had acid reflux so he wasn't sleeping at all. It was so hard to get everything done. I don't imagine it will be any easier with a 1 year old :)

Wish I had some advice to offer on the poop in the bath but I don't. I know it's normal and I've heard of it before. Little ones get into EVERYTHING! Next it will be the bottom 4 shelves that our without your things. And when they learn to problem solve and take a chair and push it to the counter to get at what they want... you're in for it. It never ends :-) The life of a mom.

Hi I loved your post. The way you told the monkey mischief that is challenging for you to handle and your attempts to it seems all wonderful. i feel it exciting to know what a 12 months old can not do? It can trouble the elder ones at so young age. Sounds completely superb! Nice efforts of yours to manage your tiny one and adapting with your busy schedule. Great job indeed by a good, I must say one of the best moms. Good luck, move on nicely.

pooping in the tub? yow! i like the idea of trying to make it an early potty-training tool. who knows?

mine is 10 months and just started teetering around (walking-ish, i guess you'd say, kind of frankenstein-esque) and i have to say, i am loving it. i think it is so much easier than the fast-crawling days. and they stay so, so much cleaner!! :)

Julian is THISCLOSE to walking. He'll take 6-7 steps not holding on, so I think we have maybe another week or two before our whole lives get turned upside down. I was really not in a hurry for him to figure out this particular skill ;) It's hard enough to keep him out of things. His new fascination is reaching up on his tippy-toes to set his toys on the kitchen counter. He even knocked down a (thankfully plastic) cup of water off the counter the other day. He's a tall one. I'm going to have to find a new place to hide all the stuff that he's not allowed to play with!

Absolutely no help on the bath time poop. That's gotta get old fast! lol

Hiya
Just finished the pooping in the bath phase. We took a potty into the bath and every time he looked like he was going to popped him on to the potty.
I talked to one woman who managed to toilet train easily after doing this.... not me unfortunately :)

Nice to see a post from you! I understand your "challenges"...outside of the moving part. We have done it SEVERAL TIMES, just not with a 12 month old. My days are spent keeping my Peanut out of trouble as much as possible, and that is not an easy task! Walking adds a whole 'nother dimension of crazy! Get ready, and enjoy! Oh, and my days end the same way as yours...usually with a nice glass of wine. Ahhhh!

Good luck with your move!
