A box of wine equals 4 bottles of wine? Sign me up!

wineLast night Monkey spent the night at my parent’s house to give me & Tarzan a break.  Not gonna lie, it was wonderful to know that we were only in charge of ourselves.  No cranky baby.  Completely knowing that a little wiggly worm wouldn’t be kicking me in the neck during the middle of the night.  Pure bliss, I tell you.

Even my husband was excited over being able to talk loud downstairs, to watch television as loud as we wanted, & to go to sleep without the monitor on & the lullaby music that is usually playing in Monkey’s room.

Like I mentioned in the comments, I am pretty sure that all this craziness is because Monkey is getting a molar in at the bottom of his mouth.  I read a bunch of stories from parents about just how awful molars are, how they can disrupt sleep, & how much pain they cause the little babes.

I’m just going to say it now, babies should be born with a mouthful of teeth because this teething business is ridiculous.  & I guess it’s a good thing that us adults don’t remember just how horrible it was when we were babies.

I find myself constantly wondering if & when Monkey will go back to his regular routine… You know, taking 2 naps (I’ll settle for one nap since he’s getting older) & sleeping through the night (most important to me).  It’s amazing what a little uninterrupted sleep does for a person.

Not kidding, each & every night I think, “This is it.  This is THE night that Monkey is going to not wake up until it’s daylight outside the next day.”  & I’m wrong each & every time.  I’ll admit that it’s frustrating, probably more so for my son, but still…

This little period of teething is a constant reminder of just how good I’ve had it the past 12 months of Monkey’s life.  I mean really, he’s been a great sleeper, hardly cranky, & completely loving to his momma… which leads me to realize that I’m a wimp.  It’s only been 1.5 weeks of this mess & I’ve had enough.

Enough of the runny nose.  The cranky babe.  The no sleep.  The pain he’s going through. & just how hard putting him in his crib is.  I’m ready to go back to how it used to be.

So that brings me to the title of this post… I purchased my first box of wine today.  Makes me laugh every time I think about it.  Boxed wine was invented for moms I’m convinced.

Cheers!

Boxed wine is always a good option! But if you want to get just a bit fancier you can get a 1.5 liter bottle of wine for a great price. That's what we've been doing lately...just got one for $6 and it tastes pretty good. Twice the size of a regular wine bottle and it has a screwtop so there's no cork to mess with either!

Oh, I'm missing my evening glass of red wine right now. I'd take boxed, bottled...whatever! 33.5 more weeks to go.

Peta - Congrats on baby #2!! That's so exciting!! I hope you are feeling well & that you have a healthy & happy pregnancy :)

Jane, Congrats on the night off. You both deserve it.
ps Peta - Congrats on the baby! Take care. As my mom always says, your carrying precious cargo. lol

As a self proclaimed wino (currently missing my wine due to pregnancy) I say a box of wine is just fine! lol Is it the classiest thing? nope, but who cares when all you want at the end of the day is to relax with a glass of wine! Saves lots of $$ too! lol

Ugh...you are SO lucky! We are 18 hours away from the nearest relative and so with the exception of visits, I'm on my own with my own monkey (10mos). We're on week 2 of molar *heaven* and I'm pooped. He has never been a good sleeper and only recently started to sleep more than 6 hours. He woke every 1-3 hours birth-3mos; 2-4 hours 3mos-6mos; then every 4-7 hours 6m-9m. Now he has gone back to going to bed around 10pm and waking up for about 1-2 hours at 4am/6am/8am. So. Freaking. Tired. His naps are all over the place. He's cranky as heck when he's awake and he must be touching me (pinching, slapping, reaching) at all times.
Anyhow...I'm really glad that you are taking the healthier approach and getting much needed breaks and pampering, even if it is in the form of boxed wine. ;-)
Thanks for letting me vent. Totally needed that :-)

I LOVE boxed wine, too! Bota Box and Black Box wines are not bad at all...and they are so cheap! Plus, they can keep up to a month (yeah, like a mom would let wine last that long!). Yum!

Awesome! I love boxed wine!!

LOL!! I also purchased my first box of wine recently!! I guess it really was invented for moms!!

I'm a seasoned pro at this no sleep thing :) J has never slept more than 6-7 hours straight, and that's only happened here somewhat recently. Nonetheless, I'm over this molar crap. We're at 3 weeks and the nights are almost getting worse and only one tiny little point has ruptured the gums. Both sides are coming in equally slowly! He didn't go down until 9 pm tonight and woke up at 11:15 crying, refusing to be nursed even. I had to rock him for a while and he conked out. Here's to another night of getting up so many times I lose track!! BLECK.

Enjoy your box of wine. I think I might just have to invest in one. Or three.

Oh Jane, can I just tell you how much I look forward to our little people's first sleep over with their grandparents? Invaluable. Of course, I'll miss them terribly, but sometimes you just need a break. I'm at the four month stage, so the sleeping through the night thing is priceless in my book. I'm so sad that you're getting woken up so much, just because that feeling is so fresh in my mind...ugh. But it'll pass I'm sure. Until then, you grab your wine, and I'll grab my Gin, and life will go on...lol

Hi Jane,

Glad to hear you guys have got a night off.. I am still waiting for mine... My parents are too far away to take littleone for the night and I would not leave llittle one with my partners mum she is getting on and canbe a little forgetful...

We have been having the same sleep issues since little one was about 7 months old and I tell ya it is wearing me out.... I have also gone back to work todays a week and even thou it is only to days it has thrown all routines out the window... Little miss is in childcare 2 days while I am at work ... I must admit going back to work gives me the break away from her i need..

Little Miss has been sleeping in our bed for months now and I am totally over it, She insists that my arm has got to be under her back... this is fine for 20 mins but all night long is a killer... We do put her down in her bed but I am still breast feeding her at night and when she wakes to feed getting her back to sleep in her cot is a nightmare so I gave up and let her sleep in our bed.... Last night however was a different story, I put her down at 8pm she decided it was too early to go to bed after a few minutes I screaming I got her up and let her play on my bed and then let her fall asleep their I then transfered to her cot.. and she sleept there till 5:45.. My boobs were bursting as I had not feed her during the night.. So brought her to my bed feed her and bang back to sleep till 8 am this is totally unheard of... I was so greatful for the full nights sleep.. I agree with you it does wonders.. Oh and my the way we just found out we are expecting number 2. I am 10 weeks pregnant and due March next year
