I found this talking cat toddler app on my iPod & my son fell in love. He’s borderline obsessed though & I don’t know how to, uh, kick the habit. Or maybe I don’t need to. I’m not sure.
It’s not like he sits on the couch & just plays with the kitty. Instead, he acts like it’s his pal & he plays with his trucks, cooks in his kitchen, & uses his golf cubs, all with the kitty app in tact.
I think it’s like his lovey. Only it’s electronic & I don’t know if that’s odd.
The app itself is harmless. It’s just this cat that repeats everything you say, which is quite annoying, especially when I’m telling him not to do something & then I hear the cat repeat what I just said in a really high-pitched voice. You can feed the cat milk, make him play an instrument, make him purr, etc. My son is in love & this cat goes just about everywhere with us.
Monkey wakes up, goes into the kitchen for his “cocoa”, & then stands in front of where the iPod charges & says, “kitty”. The kid is obsessed! If I take it away or if the battery dies, Monkey freaks out. He cries & cries & cries. He can’t seem to take his mind off of the kitty. He just repeats “kitty” & stands in front of where the iPod charges.
Is this normal & harmless or are we getting into a really bad habit? Anyone care to weigh in?

You are describing my son! I used this app to calm him down when traveling and it has become an obsession! The “Kitty” is number 1…number 2 is an app that has fish and speaks the color of the fish when he taps the fish twice.

IPad games, I took your advice and downloaded the Monkey Lunch Box game which my 19 month old loves thanks for the advice. As soon as he gets home he wants Monkeys as he calls. It is very cute and we let him play with it for a little bit and then he has to put it away. Sometimes there is a lot of screaming but he gets over it. Sounds like things are looking up for you and I hope they keep looking up!
Aww how cute. Maybe if you get him a furr real pet from the toy store? Sounds harmless to me though except when he wants the kitty and you wanna use the phone. He will find something new to be obsessed with. My niece took her favorite book everywhere she went.
That’s sweet! I don’t think it’s too much of a big deal but maybe get him a little pet kitty that looks like the one in the app? That you can have your phone back LOL!
Kids tend to love repetition. I have four children and all of them at one time or another have tormented me with something like that, whether it has been a Wiggles DVD played all day every day to the same book at bedtime for literally months. One day you’ll wake up and something else will have taken its place.
ha ha! my son is only 14 months, but he will play with an ipod nano for long amounts of time, just watching the screen light up. I can only imagine when he can actually ‘get’ something like the kitty app, I’m sure we’ll be in the same boat!
LOL
Sorry, I have to laugh- my father in law is obsessed with it and shows it to my 15 month old all the time.
I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s his buddy
My 2 yr old is obsessed with that one too. She asks for it all the time.
