13 weeks pregnant: Still feeling good!

in Mother to be, Pregnancy Week-By-Week, Second Trimester

I think I’ve found the cure to feeling good for like 4 consecutive days now…  I’m 13 weeks pregnant and I have energy.  I feel great!  This is really good considering I’ve read that a lot of people who are 13 weeks pregnant are always sleepy.  No me.

What is the cure, you ask?

13-weeks-pregnant-coffeeHaving a small cup of coffee in the morning.  No joke!  (Not trying to cure being sleepy here, I’m trying to cure the nausea and morning sickness.)  :)

I’ve always enjoyed having coffee in the morning (before getting pregnant).  Even though my doctor said that coffee in the morning was still okay, I tried not to have it.  I really didn’t miss it either.  I had it maybe two times a week and that was enough.

Well, you know about the migraines that I’ve been having.  Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but I was getting a migraine and feeling craptastic on the days when I didn’t have coffee.  I noticed that one day last week when I felt awesome was when I had a cup of coffee.

Naturally I put two and two together and came up with my “cure”.  Currently I’m testing out my theory and it hasn’t proved me wrong just yet.  For the past 3 days, I’ve had my morning coffee and I haven’t had a headache throughout the day.  I’ve actually felt really good.

It finally feels good to be 13 weeks pregnant!  I just hope it continues as each week passes and I keep on getting more energy.  Being pregnant is finally good… now if I could just get that “pregnancy glow” that I’ve heard about… then I would be a very happy pregnant woman!

Interesting. Did you know that caffiene is often given as a treatment for headaches? (It’s one of the ingredients in Exedrin for instance) I only drink one cup of coffee each day in the morning, but if I miss it, I do tend to get a mild headache by the afternoon. I tried going completely off coffee once and I had a constant headache for several days! Glad you found something simple (and tasty!) to help you feel better Jane:-)

@Helen: One of my favorite medicines for migraines in the past was Excedrin migraine. It really worked wonders and I did know that caffeine was in that medicine – That’s what gave me the idea. Since I can’t take Excedrin and Tylenol doesn’t always do the job, I thought I’d try anything with caffeine in it. Having coffee in the morning seems to be working, so I’m going to continue to stick with it!

@Peta: I’m so sorry to hear that you have a bad headache. I definitely hope it gets better soon and that you can resume with your daily activities. Sleeping it off it a good thing to do too, so maybe you should do that. I hope you feel better soon!!
