My 2 pimples as a result of being pregnancy have now tripled. It’s such a sad day for me (well a sad past couple of days). I thought the second trimester was supposed to be a breeze.
What in the hell is going on??
I put in a call to my nurse to see what I could put on my face to shrink these suckers. It’s not good news…
She said that I could not use anything with salicylic acid, but that benzoyl peroxide was fine. The bad news is that I have such sensitive skin and benzoyl peroxide makes me break out in a huge rash. The nurse did say that she could call in a prescription to treat the pregnancy pimples if I wanted her too.
I told her that I will wait and see if they get better. She told me that usually pregnancy pimples start to go away around this time in the second trimester and come back towards the end of pregnancy in the third trimester.
I’m hoping this is true, but also know that each person is different. I just pray that I’m not the type that will be stuck with pimples throughout the second trimester and third trimester… which would basically mean the whole pregnancy. That does not sound like fun at all.
Yes, I know I sound vain and I don’t care.
These pimples don’t make me feel good about myself at all. I don’t even want to leave the hotel room right now because I feel like people are zeroing in on my pimples. I wish I could wear a sign that informs everyone that I’m pregnant so that it’s known that my hormones are out of whack at the moment.
I was hoping that the pregnancy pimples would vanish into thin air, but I’m thinking that’s just not going to happen. So unfortunate. I am going to wait until Monday to see if I’ve added anymore pimples to the collection or not. If I have, you can bet that I’m calling the nurse for that prescription ASAP.
I can’t handle feeling sick, being constipated, having gas pains, headaches, hair that needs to be dyed, major bloat and/or a little bump (take your pick), AND pimples on my face. I’m putting a stop to the ones that I can control dammit!
Oh, and if you have any home remedies that take you from a pimply teenager to a 20 or 30 year old normal looking adult, PLEASE share with me. I will try just about anything and am desperate. Very, very desperate.
PS – Don’t bother with the toothpaste trick. I had high hopes for that, lathered my face with toothpaste, and woke up to the same damn thing the next morning. Oy vey.

I had the pimple problem with last pregnancy and it’s back full force with this one. I hate to tell you, but it was much much worse AFTER birth, for 3 or 4 months. It was horrible. All the cover up in the world couldn’t help me. Or zit cream. I hate them too. My hair and skin are both insanely greasy. I’ve changed shampoos and keep washing my face, but I still feel like an oil slick. It sucks.
Crysi’s last blog post..Nudist
No!!!!!! Don’t say that, Crysi! It’s not what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear all good things and to have your remedy for a clear face once again.
Wishing thinking, I suppose. I think I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed for us both!
You can try looking up washing you face with honey. Google it and you’ll find lots. I did it for awhile, but then got yelled at for using up all the honey.
Also look up the Oil Cleansing Method. I know it sounds odd, but I’ve had super great results with this, especially with blackeads. My husband especially likes for me to wash his back like this because it’s basically an oil massage.
Neither one use any chemicals so it’s perfectly safe for your pod. They are not instant fixes though. You’ve got to pick one and stick with it for awhile to see results.
Thanks for the info Katie! I will be sure to take a look at both methods and see what looks better for me. I REALLY appreciate your advice!!
Jane,
There are so many great organic beauty products that will really help your skin. I usually have great skin and use all organic stuff, but I am starting to break out now at 7 weeks. I have a client, http://www.spiritbeautylounge.com, that sells amazing stuff like this Organic Apotke detox mask I use. Let me know if you want a coupon code for 20% off. There are also less expensive things like Kiss My Face at Whole Foods, whose toner I use every night. Meanwhile, I thought pregnant women were supposed to have great skin. What was that BS about???
I don’t think there’s much you can do, as the acne is likely caused by your raging hormones, and there’s no stopping that. I think the best thing is keeping your skin clean and moisturized and making the best of it. I’ve heard in a lot of cases, the hormones will smooth out with the 2nd trimester and then you’ll get that glow. We can all hope! I’ve had a bad case of acne around my jawline and neck and some real doozies on my back since I became preggo.
I don’t think I’ve had clear skin since 6th grade.
Sigh.
Try green concealer under your normal concealer-
It looks like it would be really weird, but it’s great for neutralizing the redness.
@Paige – I would love the coupon for 20% off. I used to use Kiss My Face, but I didn’t really like it. It was a while ago, so maybe it’s changed. You are so right about the great skin being BS. Ha, ha!
@MVP – I hope you are right about everything getting better in the 2nd tri and getting a glow. I’m still waiting…
@Josie – Thanks for the tip. I’ve never tried regular concealer, let alone green concealer, but I’ll definitely try it out. Can I get that anywhere? I don’t even think I’ve seen it, but then again I’ve never looked for it…
The coupon code is FIRST20 for 20% off your order at spiritbeautylounge.com
Hey, I have so enjoyed reading your blog! You’re roughly two weeks ahead of me so its nice to see what’s coming next!
Though I hope I get to avoid the 14 week sickness! Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I had a problem with break-outs too after finding out I was pregnant. I started using lemon juice and it has helped tremendously. I just dab it on with a cotton ball before I go to bed. I found the information for it online. Some swore by using actual lemons instead of the lemon juice but the lemon juice works just as well for me and its easier. It took about 4 days before I started seeing a difference but after that, things quickly got much better. Hope this helps!
Thanks Paige – I’ll definitely take a look at it and use the coupon if I purchase anything!
Hey Stacey – So glad that you are enjoying our blog! I hope that you avoid the 14 week sickness too. It’s not fun at all. Has your pregnancy been good so far? Thanks for the lemon juice suggestion. Right now my face has cleared up and is looking good (still no glow, but hey, I’m taking what I can get without being too picky). Hopefully I won’t need the lemon juice, but if I do, I will definitely let you know how it works. Thanks again!
Sorry you’re one of the “lucky” ones regarding pimples. My daughter is pregnant and called crying about her pizza face the other day. Someone once said, “this too shall pass,” but I doubt it was a pregnant woman!
Here’s a link to some suggestions: http://newsmomsneed.marchofdimes.com/?p=2217
I started out well – perfectly clear skin up until about week 8. Then, explosion! I’ve never done well with face washes of any sort, but I did find one at Whole Foods a week or so ago that is borderline miraculous, and started clearing up my face almost instantly. I was able to stop using concealer after a few days (thank god, because I had just run out).
Highly recommended: Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash (with Tea Tree Oil and Sea Kelp)
I understand every single ingredient in it, the smell doesn’t make me throw up (and is actually subtly delicious), and my facial skin hasn’t been this soft since I was a baby. Definitely a winner.
Hi Jane,
just wanted to know how the pimples are going mine have gone from bad to worse
I have been trying not to touch them, and doing all the things people have suggested to me, trust me i have tried everything, I went back to my doctor who gave me a prescription for this cream that is safe to use during pregnancy but even that is not working,
they have become so bad that its taking a real toll on my self esteem, they don’t even look like pimples any more more like huge infested sores, that are so painful they are on my cheeks nose and now on my lips, I can’t handle this. I hate going to work because i know everyone is thinking, I cant even cover with makeup up it only makes the breakout worse
if you have found anything that work please let me know
my face looks like a swollen pizza and i don’t even want to leave the house any more
I hope they have settled down for you
I too have always had clear skin until, whammo, I got pregnant. Not so bad on my face, but my back is a mess, which is especially problematic going into the warmer months. The best products I’ve found are Alpha Hydrox, they are made with alpha hydroxy acid that is safe for us preggos. They work by speeding up skin cell turnover and cleansing with out drying. They even have a line for sensitive skin! Hope it works for you…
