Today it dawned on me that it is July 1st. Usually I do not have any attachment to the month of July. Oh, but this July is different and is the start of fabulous birthday celebrations to come.

My estimated due date is in 3 weeks. Three weeks!

Even if he doesn’t come out on his own by my due date, my OB will only let me go one extra week before she’ll want to get things moving. Even then, it will still be July.

July also marks the month that I will no longer be pregnant. (An obvious thing to say, I know.) It’s strange though.

I feel like I’ve been pregnant for so long that it’ll be weird to not be anymore. It will be odd to wear pants again with a button and a zipper, as opposed to elastic. What will I do without my shelf (aka belly) when I have an itch and need to set my phone on my bump? What will it be like when I don’t feel my belly jumping all around or hiccuping?

More importantly, what will it be like to not have dessert whenever I am in the mood? (Gotta love those pregnancy cravings!)

But, on the flip side, how miraculous and absolutely amazing will it be to hold my little baby boy in my arms and give him all of the love that I can?! I can’t wait to snuggle him, cuddle him, give him kisses, and just hold him in my arms.

Even though we are in July, that moment actually seems so surreal still far away. It’s something that I’m so excited about, but can’t really begin to imagine what it will be like.

Who will he look like? Will he have hair on his head? Will he know just how much we’ve been waiting for him to make his arrival? Will he know just how much he changed our lives (in a good way of course)?

So many questions without any answers yet. But soon we’ll know. Very, very soon.

It’ll be the beginning of the rest of our lives and honestly I cannot wait!

For some time I’ve heard, “Just wait until you get near the end of the third trimester, you will be anxious for the baby to come and you will be bored.” I honestly never thought I’d be too anxious for my life to change in such a drastic way, but dare I say it, I am.

(Although, baby T. you just stay in there for at least 3 more weeks. At the very minimum. Please.)

Last night while I was bored, I perused a few other pregnancy blogs that I usually read. While on one, I found this pregnancy survey on a reader’s blog and thought it would be fun to do.

Hopefully you find it equally interesting…

How did you find out you were pregnant? By taking a home pregnancy test, of course. I did have a feeling before that I was pregnant though.

What kind of Pregnancy test did you take? EPT

How many? I think 2 boxes, which is 4 tests. Two were negative and 2 were positive.

What were your 1st symptoms? Sore boobs. Hands down.

Who did you tell first? My husband

Who was with you when you found out? I was alone and was a complete mess after seeing the positive sign.

My 1st reaction: Not good. Crying, shaking, and freaking out. And not in a “I’m excited to be pregnant” kind of way either.

Was your baby planned? Nope. Biggest surprise of my (our) life.

When was the baby conceived? Halloween night. Too many jello shots and sex a couple of times (one of the times that I do not remember resulted in said baby. Classy, right?)

How far were you when you found out? Seems like so long ago now. I think I was 5 weeks when I got the positive.

How did your parents react? Super excited. They’d been asking us when it would happen for a while so it was great news.

My baby

Due Date: July 23, 2009

Do you know the sex? A fabulous little boy

Any names? We have his first name, but not middle. Of course, for your sake, it’s baby T.

Any Ultrasounds? One at my first appointment. One at 17 weeks (found out the sex) and one at 24 weeks to see the heart better. I’m guessing another one will be done around 36 weeks to make sure that he is in the normal position for birth. (Keeping fingers crossed!)

Have you heard the heart beat? Of course we have! We hear it at every appointment and I never tire of it.

Who do you think it will look like? Since he’s a boy, I think he’ll look a lot like Tarzan.

Will the baby have siblings? He’ll have a big sister (our dog).

Have you felt the baby move? Duh. He moves all of the time. Best. Feeling. In. The. World.

Miscellaneous

Did you have morning sickness? Ugh, yes. Awful and made me think that this pregnancy better be worth it. (Of course it was worth it looking back now.)

Did you have any cravings? I’ve basically lived off of cereal, apples, and apple juice. Only had one weird craving of an egg sandwich with doritos, olives, and pimento cheese. Despite how gross it sounds, it was delish!

Did you have any mood swings? Ha! All of the time. My husband has been dubbed the pregnancy saint because he’s put up with me. I’ve been a real b!tch at times and I’ll be the first to admit it. I am happy to say that it seems like I haven’t had any bad mood swings lately; I’m seeming a lot more needy and lovey instead. Weird switch for sure.

Are you a high risk pregnancy? Nope.

Any complications? Nope.

Formula or Breastfeeding? I’m going to try to be all about the boob, even though it sort of frightens me. I know it’s best, so I will definitely try it and hope that it works.

Have you bought anything for the baby yet? Yep. He has just about everything he needs, which is amazing considering we just started a few weeks ago.

When did you start to show? Hmm, I need to look back and see. Isn’t it funny as fast we forget? I think maybe around 18 weeks. Totally guessing though.

How long could you wear your regular clothes? I bought a few maternity things at 13 weeks for the sheer comfort factor. I definitely didn’t have a baby bump that early, but I was bloated and opted for comfort. Best decision.

Will you keep the baby’s clothes? I haven’t thought about this. I guess we will until we are finished having kids.

Home or Hospital? Hospital. I wanted the hospital experience initially, but I think that we’ll go a different route the next time around. I think the calmness and not so hospital-y intervention of the alternative will suit me better.

Natural or Medicated birth? I want the epidural. For sure.

Who will be in the delivery room with you? My darling husband, unless he passes out.

Do you think you will need a C-section? I sure hope not. I also hope that it all happens when the baby is ready to come out. Not a fan of being induced either.

Will you cry when you hold the baby for the 1st time? Of course I will. I cry at everything and I cannot imagine not crying when I hold my baby in my arms for the first time. I’m looking forward to it for sure!

What’s the 1st thing you might say to the baby? Haven’t thought about this. Maybe “Hi baby T, I’m your mom and I’m glad to meet you.”

Will you let anyone video tape the birth? I would love Tarzan to tape it, but he isn’t a fan of this at all. Maybe he’ll come around. I still have hope.

Are you excited? While this seems like such a dumb and quite obvious question, yes I am. Now. There was a point when I made a shift to the excitement phase because it wasn’t always there. Well, maybe it was, but the scared feelings outweighed the excited feelings. Now I can say that I am really excited to be a mom, meet my son, see my husband with our son, and have a new addition to our family.

Who will help you with the baby after the birth? My mom will stay with us for however long we need her. Or get sick of each other and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

What is your favorite thing about being pregnant? Feeling the baby move. I love it!

What is the worst thing about being pregnant? Where should I start? Feeling large, morning sickness, peeing all of the time, migraines, sweaty feet, lots more hair on my legs, armpits, and belly, pregnancy brain, and I’ll stop there.

What’s one thing you miss doing since being pregnant? Happy hour.

Any days you wish you were not pregnant? Of course not.

Are you ready for a baby? I think so! Ready as we’ll ever be

Do you have insurance? Health insurance, yes. Maternity insurance, negative.

How many kids do you want? We’ll see how the first one goes. Ideally I’d like a boy and a girl and am willing to try up to 3 kids to get a girl.

Do you talk to the baby? Eh, not really. I rub “him” and I talk a lot to Tarzan and my dog so I know he is familiar with my voice, but actually talking to my stomach, not so much. I have told him I love him a few times.

Do you still feel attractive? I always thought that I would embrace pregnancy and have a glow to me that was apparent to everyone. Not really the case though. I do have days where I feel cute and I have days when I feel like I got run over by a train. It just depends on my mood.

Have you had your baby shower yet? This weekend. Can’t wait.

Do you like kids? I don’t really think about it. In general I think they can be cute. I’m not that kind of girl that fawns over them though.

How far along are you now? 34 weeks and counting…

Jane: ”I really want cake for breakfast. Is that bad?”

Tarzan: “Cake for breakfast?? Remember your doctor said to try and mostly have protein at every breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cake is just all carbs.”

J: “Oh.” (I was thinking that my husband was clearly no fun for not giving into the thought of having a pregnancy craving of cake for breakfast. Why be so concerned with my pregnancy nutrition this late in the game? Remember how much macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and Taco Bell I’ve consumed? But no, he’s suddenly worried about having a small (ok, large) slice of cake? Really?!)

T: “Maybe it’s a protein cake?”

J: “Yes, yes it is. I knew I loved you for a reason.”

Yum, strawberry cake and icing with coffee for breakfast. When else could I ever get away with that?!

PS – The cake that I actually ate looked about a million times better than this picture, by the way.

I have no idea what’s going on with my body when I eat green grapes. I LOVE green grapes, but am starting to think that they don’t really, um, agree with my since being pregnant.

I noticed this early on, but I thought it was because of morning sickness or because I ate the grapes in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep. Apparently that was not the case.

Before today, the last time I ate green grapes was about 3 weeks ago.

Just a warning, here’s where the TMI might start…

So I ate said grapes and spent the day in the bathroom with some lovely diarrhea. Not so fun.

Tarzan told me that maybe those grapes were bad and that I should definitely stop eating them since they weren’t agreeing with my body. Sure enough, he was right. As soon as I stopped eating the grapes my stomach felt better and I stopped having to run into the bathroom every 10 minutes.

Without even thinking about that experience, I bought some green and purple grapes yesterday. I didn’t eat any green ones yesterday and my stomach was fine. No spending time in the bathroom.

Today was a bit of a different story.

Thankfully I haven’t spent so much time in the bathroom, but I have that same damn funny feeling in my stomach and I just know that it’s from eating green grapes.

Has this happened to anyone else? And what’s going on? Why can’t my stomach handle this deliciousness?

I do remember reading an old wives tale early on in my pregnancy that pregnant women should not eat pineapple or grapes because it could cause a miscarriage. I just remember thinking that was BS and I continued to eat pineapple and grapes. As far as that bit of information, I’ve not heard anything else.

Isn’t this so weird?!

Before I get into my review on the tasty treats I received from Vintage Confections, I wanted to explain what exactly I am doing with these reviews.

I’ve been sent a few things to try out from various people/companies and after I eat, use, or look at the products, I am going to do a review on them for all of you.

I hope it will cause you to try a new treat or product, and/or give you exposure to other baby-related items on the market. Either way, I think it’ll be a lot of fun and a win-win for us both! Who doesn’t love new things?!

Heather from Vintage Confections signed up to donate some of her delicious fortune cookie birth announcements for our contest and she offered to send me some as well. As you can imagine, since being pregnant, I was highly anticipating these treats. Who doesn’t like sweets, right?!

She put together a sampler package for me including a box of the fortune cookie baby announcements, a variety of cake balls, and Neapolitan marshmallows. When I picked up the package from the post office, I wanted to rip right into the treats, but I fought the urge until I arrived home.

Everything that she sent looked delicious and Tarzan and I both could not wait to get these sweets in our mouths! We tried everything and we were not disappointed in any of it. Not only were the fortune cookies cute, complete with a Chinese container, but they tasted incredible. It would be hard to just eat one of these (we ate them by the handful really). When you open the fortune cookie, there is a little paper in the cookie that can say anything you want it to say.

Since Heather wasn’t sure at the time whether we were having a little Jane or a little Tarzan, she did a mixture of both. Some fortunes said: Baby Jane 2.14.09 and some said Baby Tarzan 2.14.09.

Can you imagine how awesome these would go over to announce the sex of your baby? I know they would be a hit and I will definitely be dropping the hint to my friends who host my baby shower!

You could use the fortune cookies at a baby shower, bridal shower, wedding, holidays, anything else you want to announce, or just because they taste good. And I really mean that.

If you order these purely because they taste awesome, I would recommend ordering more than you need, just in case your husband is like mine and eats them up before you get to have as much as you would like! Ha!

The cake balls were a hit in our house too! The sampler included: 2 red velvet, 2 chocolate peanut butter, 2 lemon, and 2 peppermint. I was most surprised by how great the peppermint cake ball was. I saved that one for last because I wasn’t too sure about it.

Boy was I wrong!

Both Tarzan and I loved all of the flavors, especially the peppermint cake ball! These didn’t last too long in our house. Like the fortune cookies, they were gobbled up very quickly and made our bellies (and lil Tarzan) very happy!

I wasn’t too sure what a cake ball was until I took my first bite. It’s just like a miniature cake that is gone in a couple of bites. You get the moistness that is found in cake, the hard icing in every bite, and the snack-size bite that is good for your waist. Almost like a petit-four is to a cake. These cake balls are REALLY good!

Finally, we were sent gourmet Neapolitan marshmallows. Now I have to be honest about these marshmallows… While they smelled amazing (think about neopolitian ice cream), I was slight worried about how they would taste. I’m only a marshmallow fan when it comes to s’mores. Period. Tarzan can barely handle marshmallows in those.

Of course I wasn’t going to let the marshmallows go to waste though, so I slowly took a bite out of a corner. Oh. My. Gosh. It was heavenly and thankfully the marshmallows are huge in size so there was more to eat! Even though it was still a marshmallow texture, this, my friends, did not bother me one bit.

I didn’t even give Tarzan the chance to try these; I ate both of them all by myself! If you are like me and are on the fence about marshmallows, definitely give them a try. I promise that you will be pleasantly surprised!

All in all everything that Vintage Confections sent me were absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to place an order for some more sweets! If you have an event coming up, or if you just want to nibble on something other than the traditional candy or cakes that you find in the grocery store, give Vintage Confections a try. Again, you will not be disappointed at all and your mouth will thank you for all the goodness!

I’m thinking the Butterscotch candy is calling my name…

I love that I traded nausea, migraines, and throwing up in the first trimester for hunger in the second trimester. I really am loving food right now and I can’t get enough of it sometimes.

You know that I haven’t dared to step on the scale because, really, that would be stupid. I’m pregnant and supposed to gain weight. I just don’t want to go to the OB on March 4 and have the scale move up 10 pounds in 4 weeks. (I remember watching an episode of Tori and Dean and this happened to her at her appointment. She blamed it on Dean bringing her rocky road ice cream every night.)

That might make me think twice about eating Taco Bell. Until then though, I will continue to give in to my pregnancy cravings because when else do you have the “excuse” to do that?!

Tarzan just left to run an errand and then he is bringing me home Taco Bell. I know, I know, gross… but oh how it has been sounding just lovely to me lately. I sure hope he comes home soon. Of course there is nothing wrong with my car or my legs, but I just don’t feel like getting dressed yet. Even to go through the drive-thru.

Oh yes, call me lazy, but I’m in my pj’s still. So glad that I work from home and don’t have to get dressed up daily. Not sure that I would make it.

It’s funny how pregnancy brings out the need for certain foods that you never gave a sh!t about before. Taco Bell was always just eh to me, but now I NEED IT. The baby needs it. Yeah, right.

For weeks now Tarzan has been forced to listen to me whine about a pregnancy craving that I could not have. A food craving that was not around to purchase. Do you know how hard it is to want something that is nearly impossible to get your hands on?

Well, that all changed this afternoon. I finally got some Girl Scout cookies!!!

Tarzan and I took our dog for a walk since it was such a gorgeous day. While we were talking to one of our neighbors, Tarzan spotted a little girl delivering something in a wagon and asked me, “Did you ever find a Girl Scout to order cookies from?” Before I could answer his question, I asked him if he thought that this little girl was delivering Girl Scout cookies. He said yes and I got really excited.

When we stopped talking to our neighbor, we walked toward the girl, her mom, and the wagon filled with deliciousness. Before I could even introduce myself I had to ask the important question, “Do you have any extra Girl Scout cookies”

Oh yes they did! You know I was totally in heaven at this point. My mouth even started to water a little. I order some Thin Mints, Caramel DeLites, and Shortbread cookies. The little girl’s mom told me that they would bring them over after they were finished delivering the cookies in the wagon.

Not even 10 minutes later our doorbell rang. Yay! For a mere $10.50 trade, I had my cookies. Finally.

I cannot wait to eat them; I wanted to post a blog first so that I could share the good news with you. Anyone that is pregnant, whether you love Girl Scout cookies or not, should be able to relate to this and be happy for me. I’m not so sure what would have happened had I not found this little girl and her mom this afternoon!

I’m going to end this here and go enjoy some cookies!

All day long I’ve had a pregnancy craving for cupcakes. Cupcakes have been dancing in my head and screaming, “Jane, go buy me and eat me. I’m delicious!”

Naturally I did what any other pregnant girl would do: I searched high and low for cupcakes and went to buy one.

And by one, I mean three. And by three, I mean that’s all they had. I would have bought more if they were available, you know for future pregnancy cupcake cravings.

Sure I was still in my pj’s, hadn’t brushed my slighty greasy hair yet, and still had my glasses on. Sure I was laying on the couch, preparing to dream about cupcakes. It didn’t matter.

I quickly got off the couch like my life depended on it. I washed my face, put on my contacts, threw on some clothes, put on a hat (really, there’s no hope for greasy hair and why cut into cupcake time trying to make it look decent), and was out the door. Nothing like cupcakes for a pregnancy craving to get me moving!

I cleaned the cupcake place out. I bought a lemon cupcake, chocolate cupcake, and a carrot cake cupcake. I might add that it was torture driving home from the bakery. Sure, it’s only a 10-15 minute drive, but you try driving in the car with 3 cupcakes just staring at you, begging to be eaten. It’s damn hard.

Tarzan and I have this thing. Whenever one of us gets home, we find the other, give a kiss, and say hi. It’s something that we’ve always done, but today that went right out the window. He was upstairs on the treadmill, so I figured I wouldn’t bother him (right. Read: I couldn’t wait to dive into my cupcake.)

I got the lemon cupcake out of the container, put it on a paper plate, and went to town. You would have thought that I hadn’t eaten for days. Like I was eating this cupcake as if my whole life depended on it. Ha! That makes me laugh. Truth is, I couldn’t wait to shove that cupcake in my mouth fast enough.

Let it be known that I should have taken the time the time to get a knife and fork and cut it the proper way, but that would have taken the fun out of it. Sure, the yellow icing wouldn’t have gotten in my nose, but that’s what makes the cupcake eating experience in the privacy of your own home the most fun.

All this cupcake talk has me thinking about the two lonely cupcakes in my refrigerator.

Hmm… gotta go!

Throughout my pregnancy so far, even though I’m only 16 weeks pregnant, I’ve noticed a drastic change in my eating habits.

Gone are the days when I craved an apple and didn’t want chips. Gone are the days when I got dressing on the side (now I eat salad basically because of the delicious ranch dressing). Gone are the days when I didn’t have a sweet tooth.

Oh yes, I’m a literally a different person right now.

It’s funny how pregnancy makes you want food that you typically wouldn’t want. I can name off a ton of various foods that I used to never eat and I love them now. Let’s see, there’s:

Taco Bell,
McDonalds,
Wendy’s,
Candy,
Ice Cream,
Chocolate,
Chips (all kinds),
Ranch,
Pizza

And really the list could go on and on…

It’s sort of depressing for me. I’ve always been such a healthy and mindful eater and now I feel like I can’t get enough junk. Where’s the substance? Where’s the healthy cravings (besides fruit)? It’s not residing in this pregnant body. All I have to say is thank God for prenatal vitamins!

Without taking my prenatal vitamins daily, I don’t know how this baby would get any nutrients. (Well, ok, perhaps that is an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.)

I feel like pregnancy is the one time in my life that should surpass any other time. It should be the time of all times to really want to eat healthy. But how do you do it when you can’t even stomach the thought of grilled chicken and veggies? Really, how? It feels so impossible.

There have been a few times that I’ve tried to force myself to eat grilled chicken and veggies and after a few bites, I’m done. I’ve had all that I can have without making it come back up. It’s bad. It’s like I have an allergic reaction to healthy foods. Anyone else?

Oh and with the headaches I’ve been getting, I’ve had a Coke. I know it’s not the best thing to drink. Believe me, before pregnancy hit, I never even touched the stuff, regular or diet. But sometimes it is the only thing that will take the edge off of a really bad headache. Tylenol is a joke for me. It doesn’t work and I’ve always been an Advil or Excedrin kind of girl anyways.

Sometimes the headaches are just that bad and I have to cave in to having some caffeine. Sure, I’m adding an extra 39 grams of sugar and 140 calories to my daily diet, but what’s a girl to do in that situation?

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a believer in the whole “Oh, I’m pregnant so I can eat whatever I want. Pregnancy is my excuse.” I’m not like that. In fact, if it was healthy to not gain any weight and still have a healthy baby, I’d be all for that. I’m not eating junky types of food because I’m pregnant, but because I’m pregnant, I’m wanting these types of food. Make sense? Healthy stuff just doesn’t do it for me like it used to.

And just for the record, please don’t think breakfast, lunch, and dinner are junk food. So not the case. I guess I’m just eating more junk food than I ever have before and that worries me. I’ve only gained 5 pounds this far, and my doctor hasn’t said anything, so I’m guessing I’m good on the 5-pound weight gain.

I guess it’s just the extra snacking on chips, candy, cookies, and ice cream that’s throwing me for a loop. Oh and with that being said, I really want Taco Bell for lunch. A soft taco sounds delish right now.

Let’s see if Tarzan will go and get me one…
