Yesterday I had another pregnancy appointment at 30 weeks pregnant. Same story, different day.

Weight: Up 2 pounds

Baby’s Heartbeat: In the 150s

Baby’s Position: Sideways. Head is most likely on the left side of my stomach and his little feet that kick the crap out of me are on the right side of my stomach.

Problem with baby’s position: None right now. He will need to be in the correct “head-down” position at 36 weeks. If he isn’t, my OB really can’t try to turn him with her hands due to my anterior placenta. We will hope he will turn on his own, but if he doesn’t a C-section will be scheduled for 39 weeks.

My feelings on a scheduled C-Section: Eh. I don’t have any. I have trust in my OB and just want my baby (and myself) to be healthy. If that means he comes out by having a c-section, so be it!

Baby’s Momma: Looking as lovely as ever! (OK I added that for my own boost of self-esteem!)

Next appointment: I will start going to visit my OB every 2 weeks. The internals will start at 36 weeks. I asked to know this information so that I can be prepared and at least shave my legs. And clean up other areas. My OB said that she doesn’t care if my legs are shaved or if my toe nail polish is chipped. Ding, Ding, Ding – correct answer on her part!

My questions for her:

1. Green Grapes: Why do I get a funny feeling in my stomach and why do they cause diarrhea?

It could be the sweetness of grapes that is causing this. Nothing to worry about, but maybe I should stay away from them so that I’m not uncomfortable.

2. What are your feelings on an episiotomy?

It’s case by case, but she doesn’t like to have to do them. She thinks it can make the tear a lot worse in the end. (Only reason I asked is because my cousin told me to. She just had a baby last week and wished that her OB would have done an episiotomy because it’s not looking pretty down there at the moment.)

Total side note, but her husband said that once the baby came out her vagina looked like an exit wound and that you couldn’t even tell it was a vagina. Nice, right?! Let it be known that I hope and pray that you will be able to tell that my vagina is my vagina after birthing this baby.

3. Why is the baby more active on certain days?

She said that as long as I feel him throughout everyday, it’s not a problem that he is more active on certain days. I do feel him everyday, so I’m not going to worry about this anymore.

4. What are your thoughts on cord blood banking?

She said that it’s too early right now to really tell how it’s going. There are a lot of possibilities for certain diseases, but nothing that is completely clear at the moment. She said that her recommendation to us would be to do it as insurance if we have an unlimited amount of money right now. If we don’t, she recommended us donating it for someone else that could use it.

5. I love belly bars. Will I overdose on vitamins by eating them?

Dumb question I realize, but forgive me that I had a weak moment. She said that these bars are completely fine and that I will not overdose on any vitamins.

6. Why is my poop green and almost tar-like? (Just what you wanted to read, right?)

She said that it was due to the iron pills I must take twice a day. No big deal at all, just unsightly.

7. Why does my right hand and middle finger of my right hand go numb? Why does my left wrist hurt?

She said carpel tunnel, most likely. Nothing to worry about, just one of the lovely signs of pregnancy.

That’s all folks!

I guess my celebration present of being in the third trimester is having some weird feelings in my hands and wrists. I’m self-diagnosing myself as having carpal tunnel, well at least until I talk to my OB.

Of course the feelings that I have were not present last Wednesday at my doctor’s appointment.

Of course, that would have been too convenient.

I’ve been hearing that carpal tunnel can come in the 2nd half of pregnancy due to retaining fluid and swelling. The thing I find odd is that I’m not exactly swollen.

Yes, my hands might be a bit just because my wedding band and engagement ring are a little too snug for my liking, but it’s not like the swelling of a balloon or anything that dramatic. It’s very moderate, if any, and not visible to the naked eye, that’s for sure.

I’m guessing that since I’m on the computer just about all day it could be carpal tunnel. Most of the time I am sitting on the couch in the living room with my laptop, so I’m not what you would call ergonomically correct. In fact, I should probably go sit properly in my office with my wrists how they should be.

For maybe a month or two I have noticed that my hands fall asleep when I’m asleep. I hate that numb and tingling feeling. I did ask my OB at my appointment a month ago about this and she said that it was normal. While reading up on carpal tunnel, I see that this is part of it as well.

Starting just a few days ago I’ve noticed a weird feeling in my left wrist and thumb. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it’s painful, but it’s sometimes sharp and definitely annoying. It’s definitely worse at night and right when I wake up in the morning. I shake my wrists around a lot and that seems to help and there is also a popping kind of noise, like when you crack your knuckles.

If it is carpal tunnel, then I might talk to my doctor to see what will help. I read that ibuprofen helps, but I know that I can’t take that while pregnant. I also read that sleeping in a wrist brace could provide some relief so I will try that out as well.

Have any of you experienced the symptoms that I’ve been having? If so, were you “diagnosed” with carpal tunnel? What did you do for relief from it? Most importantly, did it go away after you had your baby?

Thanks!
