Mommy Friends.

mommy friendsWe all need ‘em to talk to. To bitch to.  To ask questions.  To make sure that we are doing this whole mom thing right.  To be around another adult that you can actually carry on a conversation with.

Mom friends are IMPORTANT.

Surprisingly making mom friends has been pretty easy for me… but I’ve had to sift through some, um, weird ones to get to the ones that I really like.

ear infectionYesterday I took Monkey to the pediatrician because I was convinced that there was something else going on with him.  The past two weeks have just been a little too out of ordinary for him.  I have never brought the stroller into the office, but something inside me told me to bring it.

Boy am I glad I did!

I’ve never seen the waiting room as crowded as it was.  The “sick” side of the room was completely packed, while there were a few seats left on the “well” side.  We took [click to continue…]

Easy like Sunday morning

Sunday sleepSunday mornings are my mornings.  It’s the one day out of the week where I get to sleep in until I wake up.  Then I get to eat my breakfast as slow as I choose without having to deal with Monkey.

Oh how I love & look forward to Sunday mornings.

But lately it seems like Sunday mornings don’t go my way.  Two Sundays ago my husband was going out of town, so I didn’t sleep in.  I wanted to savor the extra bit of time together before taking him to the airport.

And then there’s this morning.

I was [click to continue…]

wineLast night Monkey spent the night at my parent’s house to give me & Tarzan a break.  Not gonna lie, it was wonderful to know that we were only in charge of ourselves.  No cranky baby.  Completely knowing that a little wiggly worm wouldn’t be kicking me in the neck during the middle of the night.  Pure bliss, I tell you.

Even my husband was excited over being able to talk loud downstairs, to watch television as loud as we wanted, & to go to sleep without the monitor on & the lullaby music that is usually playing in Monkey’s room.

Like I mentioned in the comments, I am pretty sure that all this craziness is because Monkey is getting a molar in at the bottom of his mouth.  I read a bunch of stories from parents about just how awful molars are, how they can disrupt sleep, & how much pain they cause the little babes.

I’m just going to say it now, [click to continue…]

12 month old sleep regressionUp until a week ago this past Saturday, things with Monkey were smooth sailing.  He had a schedule, stuck to it, & we were all doing well.  The kid was still taking 2 naps a day & sleeping through the night from 7pm until 745am.  It was wonderful & just when I found myself thinking “this is too good to be true”, Monkey changed everything up.

& now it’s pretty bad.

Saturday, August 14th – Monkey & I went to two birthday parties, which meant that he really did not have a nap.  He was exhausted when it was time for bed, so we thought he would sleep until his usual time, maybe even longer.

Wrong.

He woke up around 11pm screaming.  None of this crying stuff that [click to continue…]

chasing a toddlerHoly hell, it’s hard to find time to blog with a 12 month old!  Gone are the days when I would spend the day writing many blog posts & post daily… Now I’m lucky to check Facebook & my blog a few times a week.  I’m definitely appreciating the time when Monkey was younger & I thought it was hard.

Ha!  That was the easy part!  All he did was sleep, eat, & go to the bathroom.

Now, I’m consistently chasing him around.  He’s not walking yet, but is thisclose to grasping the idea of it… At least that’s what I think.  He’s a super fast crawler though & keeps me busy chasing after him.  He’s into everything & our house shows that.  We have [click to continue…]

first birthday partyWhew.  Who knew planning a first birthday party could consume me this much?!  I actually had the thought of “What will I do once this birthday party is over?” last night.  I’ve been in party planning mode for about 3 months now & it’s cool to see everything finally coming together.

Last night I worked on the centerpieces & I love the way they turned out.  I wrapped three different sized boxes with wrapping paper, bought a little dog that has a “1″ on it to sit on the top of the boxes & balloons will go on the side.  It looks cute & I’m probably not doing it justice by trying to describe it.  (I’ll post pictures of it after the party happens.)

My in-laws are coming in town today & I know that will take away time from setting everything up.  Remember, though my in-laws mean well, they are, um, very needy, which drives me up the wall.

I know that all first birthday parties are more for the parents & I know that Monkey won’t really [click to continue…]

There are less than 2 weeks left until Monkey’s 1st birthday party & I’m quite emotional about it.  I have been super excited about his birthday party because I was so into figuring out the decorations, menu, presents, etc… But when I started to actually think about him getting older, moving from “baby” to “toddler”, I became a mess.

An emotional mess.

I started fast-forwarding [click to continue…]

baby taking a bathEver since I can remember I’ve taken baths with Monkey.  It’s easier to wash his hair & body while I’m in the tub with him so that’s what we’ve been doing.  I asked Tarzan a while ago about when I should stop & we never really came up with an answer.

But last night I think that I came up with the answer to that question.

You see, like all babies I’m sure, Monkey is a curious little thing.  He isn’t content to just sit in one spot; instead [click to continue…]

Today has been day 5 of having my happy baby back.  I wanted to let y’all know that he’s slept through the night the past four nights, but I was so super scared of jinxing it.  For real.

I cannot tell you how much better I function with sleep.  & Monkey is like 500 times happier with a full night’s of sleep too.  We’re in a state of bliss because we’ve gotten sleep.  It’s so freakin’ wonderful.

One of the comments on the other post said to give it a week since the last time Monkey threw up for him to get back to normal.  I kept my fingers & toes crossed when the one week mark came.  Sure enough that commenter was right & Monkey went back to his usual habits, including sleeping through the night.  Woo hoo!!

I’m so happy that no sleep-training will be needed in order to get Monkey to sleep better!!
