Father

father blogI really have to begin by saying that I miss all you guys and Jane has told me several times that many of you have been asking about me.  I’ve just put my ‘dad hat’ on and have put my nose down and have been working very, very hard.  The free time that I do have, I spend with Monkey of course.

What a journey we’ve been on, huh?

From first finding out that Jane was pregnant and dealing with all the things you deal with when you have a pregnant wife and all the [click to continue…]

seriously man upYou know, I debated and debated with myself whether or not to write this post.  After all, it’s 2:39 AM and I’m struggling to keep my eyes open.  And besides that, this is surely a touch subject with some of you – especially if you’re a lazy new father.  But before I get started on my rant, let me fill you in on a little background here…

Jane ran out today to bring our dog to the vet and I was on official “Daddy Duty” [click to continue…]

how much a baby loves his mommy and daddyAlthough our son Monkey is nearing three weeks old, he’s already shown me that he loves me at least 10 times now.  Now of course babies have their own unique ways of showing their love.  After all, they can’t talk.  And they don’t have much control of their arms and legs to drop you the “I love you” sign with their fingers.

So today, I bring you the 10 ways our son has told me how much he loves me… [click to continue…]

picture of umbilical cord that fell offA week or so ago we had asked Jane’s Twitter followers when does the umbilical cord fall off?  We received many answers ranging from 2 weeks all the way to 2 months and everywhere in between. Well, today Monkey decided to answer our question and this morning!  Shortly after Jane changed Monkey she noticed his umbilical cord was just hanging on a thread and getting close to falling off.

Jane was really careful putting a new shirt on Monkey, making sure that she didn’t touch or bump his umbilical cord.  She then picked him up, placed him in his swing and whooop!  His umbilical cord fell off!

So how long did it take baby Monkey to lose his umbilical cord?  It took 17 days for him.  Now of course the amount of time [click to continue…]

mucus plug during pregnancyJane is officially 39 weeks pregnant today and over the last few weeks I’ve learned some new pregnancy terms that I would have much preferred never hearing or learning. Seriously, a bloody show?  A mucus plug?  And how about that shocking lightning crotch?

Maybe it’s just my weak stomach when it comes to these things, but my vote is that these terms GOTTA GO!  What was someone thinking when they thought up the pregnancy terms: “bloody show” or “mucus plug” or “lightning crotch”?  I have a feeling that some sick and mean father-to-be invented these signs of labor and pregnancy terms!

So today, I’m officially going to change the names of these terms to be a little easier on my stomach.  And who knows, maybe [click to continue…]

pregnancy week 38With Jane at the tail end of the third trimester and a few days into pregnancy week 38, she’s as calm as can be with each passing day somehow.  She’s laying on the couch doing kick counts, and I’m just trying to concentrate on work… or anything for that matter.

Concentrating on anything is becoming quite a task.  I swear, I’m beginning to lose my mind here!  I mean… [click to continue…]

38 weeks pregnant belly

Pregnancy week by week 38

Jane is 38 weeks pregnant.  And yes… OK, OK, OK, so I got a little behind adding Jane’s pregnant belly pictures on our pregnancy week by week page.  But the good news is that I added the pregnancy weeks 36, 37, and 38 pictures to the page linked above.  Doing so made made me realize how CLOSE we are to the end of this journey.  Sure, it’s hit me many times over the last few weeks – but lately, it’s been hitting me BIG TIME.

I just spent a few minutes looking at all of Jane’s pregnancy week by week pictures – minus week 22, darn it!  And I couldn’t help remember when many of these photos were taken.  As I mention [click to continue…]

Dear Baby Tarzan, I love you.Dear Baby Tarzan,

I just wanted to tell you how estatic I am to feel you moving around in my belly so much!  To be honest, before I ever got pregnant, I wondered if I would like feeling a little person in my belly.  I sort of thought it would be weird, almost like an alien.  I’m sorry.

It makes my heart [click to continue…]

pregnancy hormones gone wild. Soon-to-be Fathers Beware!Pregnancy week 19.  What have I gotten myself into?  I usually have no problem coming up with words to explain something as you have seen in several of my pregnancy blog posts.  However, I’ve sat here spacing out in front of a blank screen for the last ten minutes trying to think of how I can explain what happened to me this evening.

The only term that I’ve been able to come up with to explain what happened is “hormone hurricane“.  I’ve never seen or experienced anything like this in my life.  I was inches away from losing it myself.

I guess the only way to explain what happened to night is just to tell you how it all want down [click to continue…]

19 weeks pregnant doctor appointment heart beatJane and I just got back from her pregnancy week 19, second trimester doctor appointment.  Everything went great and we got to listen to baby Tarzan’s heartbeat again!  He’s doing great and growing up to be a big strong boy.

As we left the doctor’s office, I went to the counter and paid my $528.00 (see updated cost of having a baby page) and asked how much extra would we have to pay if by small chance Jane had to have a C-section.  Her answer was an additional $200 or so.

OK, not as much as I was expecting – considering we’re shelling out $528 every visit, [click to continue…]
