Your baby is the size of the electric motor
in the $110,000 2008 Tesla which can
go from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds.  Sweet.

That’s right fellow soon-to-be fathers.  By the time your baby is born he or she is the size of the electric motor in the $110,000 2008 Tesla.  Don’t think you could be driving one of these?  You could have had one… maybe even two.

A Warning For Soon To Be Fathers:
A Bouncing Baby Could Create Some
Bouncing Checks If You’re Note Careful!

If you and your wife earn at least $50,000 a year combined, you’re going to spend roughly $184,320 to raise your child from birth to the age of 17.

If you and your wife earn at least $70,000 a year combined, you’re going to be shelling out a whopping $269,500.

And if that doesn’t make you swallow a little hard, this one will… Those statistics are from a U.S. Department of Agriculture study from 2004.  So you might as well add several tens of thousands of dollars to those numbers above since that data is 5 years old.

My advice: Take a look again at pregnancy week 21.  A few of those makes the above a little easier to swallow… at least for a few hours anyway!

pregnant-breasts-growingI’m sitting on my bed in a robe with wet hair… Oh wait, this isn’t that type of blog.

I just got out of the shower about 10 minutes ago.  After I finished drying off I stared at my naked self in the mirror, as I usually do.  You know, looking for changes and extra bulges that shouldn’t be there.

Anyways, my eyes went to my boobs and OH MY GOSH.  What happened to MY boobs?

I have some crazy looking pregnant boobs [click to continue…]

I’m not sure when the right time is exactly to go maternity shopping.  I’m in the second trimester and my “old” clothes are no longer comfortable at all.  I do have a pair of maternity jeans and 2 pairs of other maternity pants.

13-weeks-pregnant-maternity-clothesIs maternity shopping a gradual thing?

It seems like, even though I wish for all the extra weight to go right to my stomach, it just might go to my as$, arms, legs, and thighs.  (I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that it’s contained in my belly and you do the same for me too.)

Yesterday my friend and I went to A Pea in the Pod, which is also Motherhood Maternity as well.  I was surprised that there are, in fact, cute maternity clothes for pregnant women.  And some of these clothes are really expensive!

I want to buy a nice pair of maternity jeans, but with the designer label and fit.  I noticed the tag said they were like $200.  That’s pretty steep for a pair of pants that you might not be able to wear throughout your whole pregnancy.  It’s made me rethink that purchase, at least until I get a better feel for where I’ll be gaining weight.

All of you that are [click to continue…]

I think I’ve found the cure to feeling good for like 4 consecutive days now…  I’m 13 weeks pregnant and I have energy.  I feel great!  This is really good considering I’ve read that a lot of people who are 13 weeks pregnant are always sleepy.  No me.

What is the cure, you ask?

13-weeks-pregnant-coffeeHaving a small cup of coffee in the morning.  No joke!  (Not trying to cure being sleepy here, I’m trying to cure the nausea and morning sickness.)  :)

I’ve always enjoyed having coffee in the morning (before getting pregnant).  Even though my doctor said that coffee in the morning was still okay, I tried not to have it.  I really didn’t miss it either.  I had it maybe two times a week and that was enough.

Well, you know about the migraines that I’ve been having.  Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but I was getting a migraine and feeling craptastic [click to continue…]

worried-about-being-pregnant1Today has been a very busy day for me with work.  I’ve been pounding away at the keyboard since the morning, and I’ll admit, it’s been a really tough day for me.

You see, I’m extra worried about Pregnant Jane.

She left earlier today to go with [click to continue…]

the-unexpected-when-youre-expecting-bookPregnant Jane is building one heck of a collection of pregnancy books and magazines.  They’re all stacked up on an end table in our living room a mile high.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that I could still see the top of the table in one small section, so I decided to do something about it.  I asked Jane if there are any other pregnancy books she wanted and mentioned that she had heard about “The Unexpected When You’re Expecting” and thought it might be good.

Later that night I jumped online and ordered it for her as a little present.

Fast forward to today and we were doing some house cleaning [click to continue…]

13-weeks-pregnant-alcoholThe realization of being 13 weeks pregnant (and still having a hell of a long way to go) has kicked in.  Most of my really good friends do not live here, so I don’t have to worry about sticking out (soon, literally) in our circle.

Two of my friends came in from Dallas last night.  We went out for a late night dinner and it was fun, but oh so different.

I’m not going to lie (and I’m not an alcoholic), but I like to have drinks socially with my friends.  It’s just what we do.  Go to dinner and have drinks.  And dammit, I like it!

So last night we are sitting at a restaurant and my favorite drink at this particular restaurant is a dirty martini.  The olive that is put in it is filled with bleu cheese and it’s oh so good.  I took a glance at it in the menu and thought how nice it would be to have one.

Obviously, I’m not dumb and would never order that while being pregnant, but I sure did want it.  Well wouldn’t you know that both of my friends ordered MY drink.  I had to look at it at across the table from me and think how delicious it would taste going down my throat.  Why couldn’t they have ordered a lemon drop or a chocolate martini?  I certainly wouldn’t have been eyeing the glass the whole time then – I don’t even like those drinks!

Being pregnant is [click to continue…]

13-weeks-pregnant-stressI remember someone telling me once that there is never a ‘prefect time’ to plan to have a baby.  Things always come up; life happens.  Sure, there are those couples who actually plan on having a baby and do well sticking to their plan, but there is another group of couples who sometimes let life get in the way.

Jane and I of course talked about having a child.  When we got married last year, the ‘plan’ was to start trying around November.  November was so far away and we knew we’d have things in order, money saved up, and we’d be ready.

As the months went on [click to continue…]

pregnancy-insomniaI just have to laugh right now:  Pregnancy insomnia.

As if my day/night wasn’t bad already, now I can’t sleep.  And I didn’t even take a nap today.  Grrr.

Let me elaborate for you:

I didn’t eat dinner because I wasn’t hungry, but I did have to take my prenatal vitamins, so I had a bowl full of grapes.  I fell asleep on the couch around 11pm and my sweet husband came down, kissed me and my belly, and then put me to bed.  I woke up around 1am to go to the bathroom (gotta love how many times a pregnant woman wakes up in the middle of the night to pee).

I had a hard time [click to continue…]

13-weeks-pregnant-bellySecond Trimester! Today Jane is officially 13 weeks pregnant with our bouncing baby girl or boy.  It blows me away how fast these weeks are flying by and it amazes me how much Jane’s body is changing being only 13 weeks pregnant.

Before I dive in, Jane wanted me to tell everyone “hey” for her.  She will not be posting a blog tonight because hew 13 weeks of pregnancy is really kicking her butt.  Her day started off good and then [click to continue…]
